NEW DEFENSE TO DEFEND SCUDETTO - Inter have chosen Oumar Solet as its first defensive signing. If Bisseck leaves, there is Ndicka
The restructuring of the defense begins with a main wall: Inter have chosen Oumar Solet to strengthen a department weakened by Acerbi’s farewell, De Vrij’s uncertain renewal and the possible departure of Bisseck, who has several suitors, including Bayern Munich. In meetings with the club, Chivu was clear: they need a potential starter, but if there is another departure, two quality arrivals will be needed. That is why Marotta and Ausilio continue to keep contacts alive with the representatives of Evan Ndicka, fresh from qualifying for the Champions League with Roma. Inter cannot afford to stand still in a fluid market, one that could improve the budget available to invest.
Green light
Solet is in Inter’s plans regardless. After the news that the proceedings against the player had been dismissed, clearing him of the rape accusation and therefore freeing him from any major concern, nothing stands in the way of finalizing the deal. Inter have not yet spoken to Udinese, but intermediaries are working to reach a basic agreement that could be structured as a €2.4M loan with an obligation to buy in 2027.
The overall valuation will still reach €25M, which would be a full capital gain for Udinese after signing him on a free transfer in fall 2024. Ausilio will try to offer a player, perhaps a young player from the Under-23 squad, but that idea has not yet been considered. Everything is already settled with Solet, who in a recent interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport made it clear he was in favor of the move, not only because of the level of the team but also because “I really like the city of Milan.” He would sign a four-year contract, tripling his wages and rising to €2M net per season.
Why him
The choice fell on Solet because, in terms of technical and tactical characteristics, he can replace Bisseck. He is right-footed, physically powerful, aggressive, good in build-up play and the same age. Not a clone, but a worthy heir. At Udinese he often played as a left-sided center-back, but under Chivu he would have no problem occupying the other defensive roles, as he did at Salzburg.
Interestingly, he scored his first Serie A goal at the San Siro against Inter, just a few weeks after his Italian debut. French by birth, he comes from a family that is half Central African and half Ivorian. However, he hopes to eventually earn a place in the France national team, currently coached by Deschamps.
The other idea
Ndicka has a similar background, having been born in Paris to a Cameroonian father and an Ivorian mother. The Roma defender, however, decided to represent Ivory Coast, with whom he has already won an Africa Cup of Nations. He will take part in the World Cup, although he is currently recovering from an injury.
Ndicka would be the finishing touch to Chivu’s new defensive bunker. Inter had already considered him a month ago, when Alessandro Bastoni seemed close to leaving. But he remains on the radar as a possible numerical replacement for Bisseck. Naturally, much will depend on Roma’s demands. The Giallorossi need to generate a series of capital gains by June 30 and are trying to secure favorable conditions for the players they are most willing to sacrifice. The other one is Koné, who has also been repeatedly targeted by Inter and is valued at €50M. Ndicka could be available for around €30M, a figure that would be healthy for Roma’s balance sheet.
Revolution
On the right side, however, Inter’s plan is as clear as a summer sky: Dumfries out, Palestra in. Not everything has fallen into place as expected yet, but something big will happen. Dumfries has a €25M release clause valid until mid-July and intends to use it; Real Madrid, among others, have set their sights on him.
That is why Marotta and Ausilio have already knocked on Atalanta’s door for his replacement: Marco Palestra. Yesterday at Coverciano, he openly admitted that he is “ready for a big club,” and Inter consider him the right player in terms of quality and potential. To avoid another Lookman-style case one year later, Inter went directly to the Percassi family.
The first offer, worth €40M plus €5M in bonuses, was rejected. Atalanta want €50M, not a euro less. But the feeling is that, little by little, the clubs will reach a compromise. Palestra will cost almost twice as much as Dumfries, but he would allow Oaktree to lower the wage bill and reduce the average age of the squad. In practice, he meets all the requirements the ownership likes when approving bigger payments.
Solet told Udinese he wants Inter! Talks on going between clubs on formula of the deal
Oumar Solet is increasingly emerging as Inter’s chosen target to strengthen the defense.
After the dismissal of the legal case involving the Udinese defender, the path has now opened for talks between the Nerazzurri and the Friulian club. Inter already have an agreement in principle with the player, while Udinese are aware of Solet’s preference for the move.
Dialogues are now ongoing to find the right formula for the deal, with the final package expected to be close to €25M.
