@ajamesbragg At least Labor is trying to get homes built for vulnerable people. You’d better hope they don’t hit their 40,000-home target, or you might look foolish. I’m amazed you think the old balance between first home buyers and investors was right. You’re super out of touch.
This is one of my favourite charts ever.
The share of new mortgages flowing to property investors is heavily inversely correlated with the proportion going to first home buyers.
It is very much an either or sort of choice.
High GST/VAT has been observed reducing living standards in Eastern Europe
I get this is disruptive to the whiners on here because they think GST is cool but it’s not
It’s regressive
Our GST requires MASSIVE redistribution to not be a drag on living standards
Tax Capital Gains
@MGrahMcIntosh So, do we like data centres or don’t we? I’m a bit confused. Maybe the Liberals should copy Trump and put tariffs on all the chips and stuff. Australia was already pretty broken; that’s why Labor is trying to fix it.
The housing crisis was fuelled by overly generous CGT and negative gearing concessions. I supported today’s changes as I’ve long campaigned for reform. As things stand at the moment however the Gov has much work to do to get the rest (e.g. trust changes) done right #auspol
Labor’s “socialism” in Australia delivered:
-Medicare
-Superannuation
-Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS)
-Public schools
-Minimum wages
-Universal TAFE
-Below OECD avg tax rates
The wealthiest citizens in the English speaking world
This is what the whiners call “Socialism”🤦♂️
Data centres could consume more water than every person on earth and produce emissions equal to the United Kingdom annual total by 2030, a United Nations report has found.

@TimWilsonMP Did that really happen Tim?
I miss the Tim who wanted to help first home buyers and fix our “rigged tax system that favours the few at the expense of the many”.
Also, remember this:

@brunoivanisavic@ajamesbragg I assume it’s because they were cowards who stupidly thought supply alone would fix the housing crisis. At least they’ve woken up; now I’ve just got to get Bragg to do the same.
@Sauronlordking What I see from the image is that the best country in the world has the most taxes. It’s almost like paying tax is part of building a greater country.
@MYLEFTTESSE@jasonsnakeblake@newscomauHQ I’m saying voters have had chances to vote for people who said they’d do something about it, and those people don’t usually win many votes. Maybe things are about to change, but a lot of people benefit from our migration system.

Turns out governing is hard for Labor. @Tony_Burke, here are some housing-first tweaks:
• Clear the bridging-visa backlog
• Cap Temporary Graduates
• Tighten Working Holiday settings
• Toughen VET entry; suspend risky providers
• Review the NZ direct-citizenship pathway
@ajamesbragg I heard you think there should be caps on people’s aspiration to own a home, and that ambitious people with good jobs shouldn’t be able to buy sooner. But you’re really cut up that investors can only negatively gear new homes.
@MYLEFTTESSE@jasonsnakeblake@newscomauHQ Labor isn’t campaigning on less migration, yet it still does well with voters. I’ve been raising bridging visas for ages because that’s where a lot of the real failure is.

@TheKouk We need an efficient and effective immigration system that works for Australia. With over 400,000 people on bridging visas and temporary visa holder numbers still growing, maybe it’s time to ask how the system could work better.
