It’s Saturday night Kenya; the curtain is coming down on the 8th edition of Menstrual Hygiene Day. Sometimes we get so excited about the wins, like countries providing sanitary products for free to women and girls and sometimes, it feels like a bad dream...
🧵1/2
Kenya is facing a growing crisis of gender-based violence and femicide.
In response to public outcry, the government appointed a Technical Working Group to examine the causes, gaps, and failures in how GBV and femicide are being addressed — and to recommend concrete action.
That report has now been presented. You can read it here https://t.co/29TH6U953c
Over the coming weeks, CREAW will be breaking down what the report found, what it recommends, and what government must do next.
Because reports don’t save lives, implementation does.

Today, on the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we celebrate the power, potential, and brilliance of girls who dare to explore, question, and innovate.
🌸 Let’s support, mentor, and amplify girls in science today and every day.

ARRESTED!
Tiktokers arrested this evening. These boys have been harassing pedestrians and indecently attacking women along Eastleigh, Pangani and Muthaiga areas of Nairobi in the name of content creation. They will be taken to court tomorrow to face various charges.
The findings from CREAW’s learning brief shows that strengthening Women’s Rights Organizations leads to measurable and lasting change. WROs improved leadership, management, and sustainability, with the majority adopting strong governance, financial management, and M&E systems. This enabled better policy advocacy, stronger alliances, and increased influence at community and county levels.
As a result, service delivery improved particularly in GBV prevention and response, reproductive health, and women’s economic empowerment while women and girls experienced increased participation in decision-making, improved dignity, and reduced vulnerability to GBV and early pregnancies.

This year, we are proud to stand in solidarity with @superb_cbo & other partners as we gear up to mark the day in Kibera 1/3
The foundation calls on leaders to prioritize education on #MenstrualHealth and #gendersensitivity, fostering dignity and inclusivity. They emphasize the importance of fact-based conversations and policies to uplift women and girls, not stigmatize them.
Violence against women is a crisis that cannot be ignored. We stand in solidarity with the brave individuals who protested peacefully against femicide today. Women deserve justice, safety & the right to live without fear. #EndFemicideKEConvening#saytheirnames#TotalShutDownKE
