Making real pixel art games is surprisingly challenging using modern engines. When character moves just 1px in 1/60s, you can't use standard delta time simulation / presentation and expect smooth results. Here is what I did for Inversion Day, to make it perfect (at least where it was possible).

LIGHTS! CAMERA! INVERSION!
Come try the demo, it’s completely spoiler free from the main game, we have a small speedrunning community brewing for it also!

Global Illumination, smoke simulation, fixed delta time ultimate test. Everything finally works perfectly. No artifacts, no issues. Inversion Day rendering tech is almost finished. All unity lights and shadow casters were removed from the whole project.
Lights hanging from ropes are cool, but I’m not sure they’ll have any use beyond the visuals. And that’s probably not ideal. Everything should have some purpose, right? :)

I accidentally turned off the character rendering, and he is still visible thanks to the smoke interaction and shadow casting. Would be cool to use this for some secret stuff.
An indie game where you invert the world to escape an alien spaceship.
- Use artifacts to invert space
- Solve handcrafted platform puzzles
- Hunt secrets in connected areas
Would you play this? Game is called Inversion Day
The demo of Inversion Day is on steam finally. It doesn't contain anything from the full game. All levels were made just for it, so no spoilers :) There are quite few secrets in it and 100% it is not that easy. Let me know if you manage to get to the full end.

The smoke simulation looks pretty cool even for the logo. I'm working on trailer for demo and this could be the last scene. Rendered realtime in unity of course. 320x180 with CRT simulation effect on top.
The air quality index on this alien spaceship is probably not that good :) I like how everything feels alive now, but it's easy to make it too strong. I'm simulating a bit more than what's visible on the screen, so camera scrolling is ok.
