I am very excited to be presenting some of my PhD work on examining camouflage effectiveness in Virtual reality environments today. Come along to session 1G if you would like to hear more #ISBE2024
Play our new find-the-harvester game! By playing you'll be helping us to understand the weird and wonderful diversity in harvester colouration https://t.co/VUNRSiYdO7 @UniExeCEC
🚨We are delighted to announce that our new paper is out NOW in @CurrentBiology 🦑🌅Here we show how #cuttlefish alter their #camouflage response under naturally occuring dynamic lighting ('water caustics')!

Exciting new gadget - a hyperspectral camera/imager that you can build for ~£350. It can measure radiance or reflectance, ~320-880nm, 9nm FWHM, customisable spatial resolution, enormous dynamic range, and a simple GUI for desktop or android.

Have you ever felt like you have a "sixth sense"? That you can somehow feel that danger is coming? Turns out caterpillars really can! We've just discovered that they can sense the static electricity of predators and react defensively. Out now in @PNASNews https://t.co/eaMF1FWhMj
New bowerbird paper led by @menno_vanberkel! Male great bowerbirds build display courts that are linked to mating success, and we found that object availability 🧱 rather than male building ability 👷 explains variation in court quality https://t.co/R7zbCgn5g7
Its been a week and I still don’t think it’s set in… I’m delighted to say that I passed my viva with minor corrections! A huge thanks to @HannahMRowland and Jim Bown for a thoroughly enjoyable discussion on the use of VR in camouflage research. #Camouflage#VirtualReality#PhD
This fall, we will again be running the renowned Sensory Ecology postgrad course here in Lund. Find information and sign up at the link below. Registration is on a first come-first serve basis.

🚨We are delighted to announce that our new paper is out in #Ethology 🦀🦐🦑 Here we show that dynamic illumination has limited influence on the habitat selection and behavioural activity of #crustaceans and #cephalopods.

Very happy that our beginner's guide to the ithomiine butterfly visual system is now alive and kickin' in @J_Exp_Biol! 🙌 We report extensive variation in the visual system, hinting at its lability to evolve adaptations to distinct visual environments. 🦋https://t.co/afSnWjkyPt
Hi everyone be sure to check out brains vs prawns a joint game, made by me and the amazing @EcoColourCamo, investigating how invasive seaweeds might impact the camouflage of prawns. Every play contributes to

Listen up folks and please spread the word. Call for abstracts for #ISBE2024 is now open!! See you all in Melbourne! @BehavEcol

Can patterns with illusory depth cues enhance camouflage? An example of of how learning by wild birds may override camouflage (and outwit the investigators!). @aleejessop@lauraakelley @jTrosci

Well, that's paper number 2 of the PhD out. Using 3D scans, multispectral imaging and spatial image analyses we show how lapwing use local geometry and camouflage to hide their nests. Special thanks to @GWCT and @GW4plusDTP for funding this research.
