I was at the London trans pride event over the weekend. I saw many physically impaired people and those with scars all over their bodies. I listened to speeches by those who appeared to have symptoms of psychiatric disorders. And yet, they believed they had all the political answers to run society (abolish nations and give free hormones to anyone).

There were pro-trans parents who believed they lost their children to s—icide because of transphobia or medical transitioning being too slow.

Press coverage described the event as “joyous” but some of the signs referenced deadly violence and many expressed hatred for women who reject trans ideology.

These were among the descriptions used by Belfast Telegraph crime correspondent Allison Morris during a BBC Radio Ulster interview with @SexMattersOrg Director of Advocacy Helen Joyce earlier today.

They were debating the cancellation of a Women’s Rights Network event at Féile an Phobail.

Morris was defending her recent Belfast Telegraph column in which she accused women campaigning for sex-based rights of “obsessing” over a tiny trans minority and described them as an “online sectarian mob”.

She repeatedly linked gender-critical campaigners to Donald Trump, Elon Musk, anti-migrant activists and the far right - associations apparently drawn from scrolling people’s social-media feeds.

She accused Joyce of bringing a “nasty attitude” to the interview and asserted - incorrectly - that JK Rowling was funding legal action against Féile. The presenter read out a statement from WRN that refuted this.

When Joyce alleged that false claims had been made in both the column and the interview and said Morris should have checked her facts, Morris snapped: “We don’t interview people for opinion articles.”

Presumably Morris was unaware of Joyce’s own background as a journalist.

Opinion journalism allows robust criticism. But it does not remove the responsibility to check facts, represent opposing arguments fairly, acknowledge where claims are contested and distinguish scrutiny from personal attack.

🚨WITNESS APPEAL – TEIGNMOUTH / SHALDON BEACH 🚨

This took place earlier today (27th July) at Shaldon Beach, Teignmouth, Devon.

A member of the public reports seeing the man in the photo below pick up his dog and throw him against a stone wall multiple times. The witness states he then pinned the dog to the ground and punched him repeatedly, while the woman with him stood by and watched.

According to the witness, this happened because the dog didn’t recall immediately and the man got his jeans wet retrieving him.

Eduardo spat for the fifth time in seven years on Wednesday, and the recipient had a drone.

You need to know what the count means before the drone matters. An alpaca's spit is not saliva. It is the contents of one of three forestomach chambers, brought back up the oesophagus and delivered about three metres with the accuracy of a man throwing a dart at a wall he is leaning against. It carries partly fermented grass, gastric acid at somewhere near pH 2, and a smell that people on the receiving end describe as permanent. It does not come out of fabric. It does not come out of hair. It does not come out of the memory.

Four times in seven years. A fox. A stray dog. A journalist who got too close to the smaller ones. A man from the council, who did come back, but in sealed eyewear.

That is the entire system. He almost never has to.

On Wednesday a man was flying a drone from the footpath, low, in passes, the way they do once they have found something photogenic. The flock bunched. The orphan lamb, who thinks it is an alpaca, went and stood at Eduardo's shoulder with its ears flat, being no help whatsoever.

Eduardo watched two passes. Then he walked, unhurried, across sixty metres of field to the fence line nearest the man.

He did not spit at the drone. There is no teaching a drone anything.

He spat at the operator.

The drone came down in the hedge. The man went back to his car at a pace suggesting he had reconsidered a number of things, and somewhere on the road home he will have understood that it is not going to wash out, that he is going to have to explain it, and that no version of the explanation does him any credit at all.

Eduardo went back to the geometric centre of the field and hummed once.

He has never yet had to do it twice to the same person.

I’ve been thinking about this ‘your views are among the most overly platformed on the planet’ quote from this Belfast Telegraph journalist since I saw it this morning. I find it extraordinary.

The nation’s broadcaster, the BBC are not keen to platform anyone with WRN’s views. They have to be dragged kicking and screaming to feature someone from WRN.

ITV, Channels 4 and 5 are not exactly enthusiastic.

Women’s magazines won’t go near them. Metro would rather burn its own office down than feature a voice from WRN. The Mirror, Guardian, Indy run for the hills or only platform trans/gender identity voices.

Yes, The Mail, Telegraph, Times, Sun have all - in the last five years - platformed their voice. Finally! As have GB News, Talk TV and LBC. But still some of those stories come very much from a ‘But won’t it make the men sad? angle when they are supposed to be talking about women’s rights.

Until 2021, anyone with WRN’s views were being banned from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram etc for calling men, ‘men’. Yes, X is now one of the safest places for women to talk about gender woo and highlight injustices. Is that really over platforming???

It’s only down to the sheer determination of women in orgs like WRN - who have refused to back down - that we have any voice at all.

Perhaps that’s the problem? Even ‘any voice’ from women with views that ‘the earth is round’ is too loud for these people…
