@PiecesofMargo Depends on which books you read and who they’re focusing on. A few women did extremely well financially as sex workers or were able to escape “the life” and bury their pasts. Most weren’t so lucky. Trafficking and exploitation of minors and minorities was all too common.
@MrUnionYes@politica1_news Do you want me to share the Election Day stats from my Thoreau precinct on Election Day? 3800 voters and heavy foot traffic throughout day. We probably will vote above county average on Election Day, whatever that is.
@AlbenBarkleyFan@MrUnionYes@politica1_news Turnout Thursday at Jim Scott was about 300 at 5 pm. Captain in training was not able to get a final count at 7 pm. Sorry about that.
This sounds like a lower turnout than past few days but would still be above average for that site on a Thursday.
@MrUnionYes@politica1_news 613 voters at Jim Scott Monday. Most appeared to be YES supporters. Again, this is a huge number for any day of the week, and especially for a Monday.
@MrUnionYes@politica1_news I have not seen county totals yet but have heard random numbers from various sites and they are all way way higher than usual.
@MrUnionYes@politica1_news@samshirazim@DjsokeSpeaking Pent-up demand more likely. Early voting has been available here in Fx since Mar 6 but only at three locations, none of which are centrally located. People prefer early voting locations near their homes which is understandable.
@bluevirginia@vaplan2018 Both parties waste significant time, peoplepower, and money every year collecting, verifying, notarizing, and transporting thousands of pieces of paper with handwritten signatures and data. Virginia needs to bring this process into the 21st century. 2/2
@bluevirginia@vaplan2018 Missed opportunity: Del Cole’s bill HB 89 to automate the signature collection process for candidates died in subcommittee without even receiving a hearing. 1/2
@LtNOWIS@ChazNuttycombe@allieatstatenav Normally you would be correct. Because of the redistricting referendum, the June primary THIS YEAR ONLY will be in August. Even if referendum fails. In any case, it’s not November. (Yes, it’s confusing.)
@stratisbohle@notlarrysabato That is actually a really good idea. Having designated alternates would have saved everyone a lot of time, money, and energy this year. And then we could have a special Election Day statewide to handle all the various vacancies.
@ChazNuttycombe@StateNavigate@allieatstatenav Your analysis says James Walkinshaw will be running in the new CD 7 and Helmer will be running in the new CD 11. Isn’t it the other way round? Walkinshaw officially announced this morning that he is running for reelection in CD 11. And his home is in that district as well.
