@larissaphillip Training…that’s the issue! Almost all teachers we hire have to be explicitly taught how to even pronounce the sounds correctly.
Undoing what they learned in balanced literacy will take a long time.

As a structured literacy tutor, I have a job because the schools have failed their students. We have a long waiting list because kids are not reading at grade level. Schools must do better so we can help the kids who really struggle.

@BingsCop @BenisonMrs At The Centre for Literacy & Learning, we use REWARDS from Voyager Sopris to teach our students how to decode multi-syllable words. The program is evidence-based, explicit and systematic. Students learn the strategies and apply them to read sentences and stories in later lessons.

@melbrethour And….it’s a shame that in countries like Canada and America this is happening. We send our children to school to learn…shouldn’t learning HOW to read proficiently be part of the education system?
