People who are saying not to give RJ the bag - who else we getting? We can’t get FAs. Investing in youth the only way we become competitive and that’s the whole of it whether you like it or not
BREAKING:
After trashing the Knicks for weeks, Draymond Green CANCELED his interview with @KnicksFanTv just 20 minutes before it was set to take place.
Dodging the smoke…
Reporter: "Anything you would change about All-Star weekend?"
Chet Holmgren: "I think what they should do with the Dunk Contest is the 4 highest verticals in the NBA have to participate... So I'm safe."
Jalen Williams: "I think a 1-on-1 tournament would be cool. We play a lot 1-on-1 in the summer which no one really sees."

Alright. Let’s try to do A Tweet.
I will have much more to say about RJ, and much more to say about IQ. I will be diving into the OG film over the next couple days, with much more to come on him. With those caveats, and an hour to think on this, here are my initial thoughts:
1) RJ and IQ each had a profound impact on this franchise, and indubitably played key rolls in turning the Knicks, through performance, attitude, demeanor, and work-ethic, from a two-decade-long laughingstock into a competent and competitive team. As a fan, I’m grateful to them. And I’ll miss them too.
2) Brunson is a keeper. He’s a star. But he’s an imperfect one. And because you are keeping him, you have to build around him. And RJ was never the right fit.
IQ, as has been discussed ad nauseam over the last 48 hours, DID fit, but I think it’s at least a fair perspective to say he wasn’t the perfect fit. And that was certainly the current coach’s perspective. OG, in theory, is the perfect fit. And from that standpoint, I just get it.
3) That said, it’s a lot to give up for a non-star, and there’s a fair argument, and a fairly clear argument per certain metrics, that IQ is simply better than OG at this moment. From that standpoint, to lose RJ + IQ + the 31st pick is a haul by the Raptors, and purely from an asset perspective, not great work by the NYK FO. I do think that’s negated to some extent by the difficulty to find an OG-type in the league, vs an IQ-type, but I do believe the Raptors won this trade from a pure value perspective.
4) There’s still a TBD element to this - what contract do the Knicks give OG, and what do the Raptors give IQ? If the rumors are true that OG is willing to take a considerable discount to stay in NY, that would and should change the calculus. So this will and should be revisited once the numbers are in.
5) From a current basketball standpoint, I LOVE the lineup of Brunson + DDV + OG + Randle + iHart. I think for the time-being, you need to heavily stagger Randle and Brunson without IQ and RJ to ensure some creation at all times. I like that the Knicks tagged Precious as well in this deal for some front-court depth. I’d assume he becomes the backup 5 immediately but we’ll see. Flynn is a TBD for me. He should have to compete with Deuce for minutes imo.
More to come. Stay tuned. Wow.
This is so crazy. For years we were ass and we’ve now become a good team that will make the playoffs consistently. A player or two away from contending. This is 🚮
Stephen A Smith ESPN: "When the Knicks are brought up I go blind with fury. Kenny Smith & Charles Barkley absolutely on point…the Knicks never go into a game where their player is the best player…I'm totally disgusted…Worst place to be is in the middle…They're hell-bent on holding on, I know this for a fact –– 'it's about the marathon, it's not about the sprint; we're building something here' –– you know who says that? People more interested in keeping their jobs than doing their jobs; see, when you convince everybody for the long game, then you get time, as opposed to being under the pressure cooker to provide results! Now, I respect the hell out of Leon & World Wide Wes…Thibodeau…I know they're a good team, but they're not part of the championship equation. Well you got 11 damn picks…Go out there & utilize it & get us a star at the Garden for crying out loud –– or stop calling it the Mecca"
It’s been really cool seeing DDV bring some of the GSW off-ball movement and spontaneity to a team that is SEVERELY lacking it otherwise.
His first two buckets last night were just random, sudden cuts to open space (instead of default spacing to 3).
“RJ Barrett, you were absolutely pathetic. 1-of-10 from the field in 32 minutes… Julius Randle, I am done with this man. I'm calling for the New York Knicks to trade him. You're not going to win with him.”
Stephen A. Smith RIPPED the Knicks forwards 😳
