Coach Holtz pledged to each of us that if we gave Our Lady’s University and him 4 years, he’d be there for us for the next 40.

What a day of celebration at Notre Dame. This chapter has come to an end, but the stories will grow, the message will grow. Now it’s our responsibility to continue to pass down the trust, commitment, love that Coach Holtz taught us. We didn’t know it, but he was a coach of life and he bonded my teammates and I forever. Rest in Peace Coach.

JUST IN: Legendary football coach Lou Holtz has passed away at the age of 89.
Holtz led Notre Dame to an undefeated season and national championship in 1988. He was put in hospice care earlier this year.
“Among his many accomplishments, we will remember him above all as a teacher, leader and mentor who brought out the very best in his players, on and off the field, earning their respect and admiration for a lifetime…” University of Notre Dame President Rev. Robert A. Dowd said.
“Whenever Notre Dame called to ask for his help, Lou answered with his characteristic generosity, and he will be sorely missed.”
“The prayers of the entire Notre Dame community are with his family and many friends in this time of sorrow. May he rest in the peace and love of Christ.”
-We are keeping Coach Lou Holtz in our prayers and honoring the legacy he built at Notre Dame.
