The multinational unit is based in the Lapland region, reports Iltalehti citing NATO sources.

The core of the brigade consists of Swedish units from the Norrbotten mechanized brigade, known for its training in combat under harsh winter conditions. To speed up the unit's readiness, weapons — including Swedish Archer self-propelled howitzers — have already been pre-positioned in Lapland.

Air support will be provided by British Eurofighter and F-35 fighters, as well as Apache attack helicopters.

In addition, up to 7,000 Finnish soldiers are permanently stationed directly next to the new brigade. According to sources, this force buildup is coordinated so that the total number of troops in this direction matches the number of Russian units deployed near the border.
