There has been a wave of demolitions targeting mosques, dargahs, and other Muslim religious sites across Rajasthan’s border districts of Bikaner, Phalodi, Jaisalmer, and Barmer.
I spoke to AIMIM Bikaner District President Shafi Jameel Qasmi, who stated that four mosques in Bikaner and nine mosques and dargahs across Phalodi, Jaisalmer, and Barmer have already been demolished. Notices have also reportedly been issued to hundreds of other religious sites. Among those facing action is the approximately 250-year-old dargah of Hazrat Mahmood Shah Jilani on the Ramgarh–Tanot Bypass Road in Jaisalmer.
These demolitions are being justified on national security grounds. However, none of the people in these areas have ever been involved in any such activities. Only Muslim places of worship are being targeted.
Authorities have alleged that some structures are built on grazing land. In cases where it has been shown that the structures stand on private property, the allegation has reportedly shifted to a lack of permissions or approvals.
@AmitShah, these discriminatory and targeted demolitions are illegal and must be stopped immediately.
Remembering Junaid Khan: The Lynching of a 16-Year-Old Muslim Boy
On 22 June 2017, 16-year-old Junaid Khan left Delhi after a day of Eid shopping.
He had new clothes to wear.
A festival to celebrate.
A family waiting for him at home.
Like millions of teenagers, he was looking forward to Eid.
He never made it home.
Junaid boarded a crowded train with his brother and friends, expecting nothing more than an ordinary journey home after a day of Eid shopping in Delhi.
Within hours, the journey took a tragic turn when some Hindu men argued with Junaid and his companions over seats inside the crowded compartment. The argument soon escalated into anti-Muslim abuse and violence.
He was called a “beef eater.”
He was called “anti-national.”
His skull cap was snatched off.
His beard was pulled.
Then the violence began.
Inside the crowded train, the Hindu men surrounded the boys. Knives were drawn, and Junaid was stabbed multiple times.
A 16-year-old boy was bleeding to death in a crowded coach.
Nobody came to save him.
When the train reached Asaoti station, Junaid was thrown out onto the platform. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
His family waited for him to come home.
Instead, they received his body.
In the days that followed, multiple accused were arrested, including the alleged main assailant. But as the case moved through the courts, several accused were granted bail and the legal proceedings dragged on for years.
Years turned into nearly a decade.
His family kept waiting.
Waiting for justice.
Waiting for accountability.
Waiting for closure.
Nine years have now passed since Junaid Khan was lynched on a train.
Yet the story did not end with Junaid.
Across India, Muslims continue to face assaults, hate crimes, and mob violence on a daily basis.
The names change.
The places change.
The headlines change.
But the grief remains the same.
That is why Junaid Khan must not be forgotten.
If a Muslim had said something like this for a Judge. By now he would've been Encountered and his house would've demolished.
But since he is a Hindu abusing a Muslim Judge. No one really cares.
