Life is the ongoing process by which a bounded, thermodynamically open system continually regenerates an interdependent organization of constraints whose continuity through material transformation constitutes it as a distinct system. 2/3

DUJ’s claim is not “mysticism”, it’s engineering: if a MAS can maintain invariant-stable selfhood across time, you’ve crossed the threshold into computational consciousness (at least functionally). Qualia is the next debate.

DUJ implies something radical: multi-agent systems (MAS) can develop consciousness, the first known leap from biological → computational. A conscious MAS would be a brain-only being: no body, no metabolism, just neurons/agents + time-coherent selfhood.
