THE DAY MY MOTHER STOPPED ASKING ME FOR MONEY, I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG.

Ever since I started working, my mother would call me almost every Sunday to ask if I could send her something for her feeding.

Sometimes I will send ₦5,000. Sometimes I ignored her calls because It was tiring hearing the same request.

Last Sunday, she called and said, My child, don’t worry about sending anything again. I am managing.

I felt a relief. I thought she had finally found a way to manage her expenses (feeding).

Just yesterday, I decided to visit her unexpectedly. I found my mom drinking garri and groundnuts. When she saw me, she tried to hide the bowl and smiled.

Angrily, I asked why she didn’t tell me she had no food.

Her response left tears in my eyes:

“My dear, You have your own life to build. I don’t want to become the reason you cannot move forward.”

I couldn’t speak. I was shaking. I just held her and started crying.

It was so heartbreaking seeing the woman who went hungry so I could eat was now apologising for needing food from me.

Some parents are not asking for too much. They have simply become too afraid to disturb the children they sacrificed everything for.

Always check on your parent. They won’t be here forever ♾️ ✌️
