@MaritStiles, Leader of the @OntarioNDP and Leader of the Official Opposition, has responded to the concerns I raised on behalf of @SWAPHamilton.

I appreciate Marit taking the time to acknowledge the distinction between workers and the owners of businesses, and to recognize the marginalization, precarity, stigma, and safety risks that many sex workers face. She has now clarified that her concerns were about government accountability, and not about sex workers or the legitimacy of their work.

Most importantly, she reaffirms something I have always believed: solidarity means standing up for the dignity, safety, and protection of all workers, including sex workers. She also recognizes the need for safer workplaces, better working conditions, and stronger labour protections, particularly for the most vulnerable workers.

This is why I have spent over a decade advocating for sex workers' liberation. It has never been about one issue or one community. It is about a fundamental working-class value: every person who works deserves dignity, equality, safety, respect, and the ability to live with economic security.

My advocacy for sex workers is inseparable from my unwavering support for working-class people. Whether you are working in a steel mill, a restaurant, a warehouse, a salon, an office, a construction site - or in the sex industry - you deserve a government that sees you as a person, not a statistic or a political talking point.

That is the kind of mayor I intend to be for the @CityofHamilton.

I believe in listening to people, taking their concerns seriously, and then taking action. I believe in standing with workers when they are being ignored. And I believe Hamilton should be a city where working people, not just the powerful and well-connected, have a voice in the decisions that shape their lives.

Thank you to Marit Stiles for responding, and thank you to everyone who continues to stand with SWAP Hamilton and with sex workers.

My campaign is about working-class Hamilton. And I will never stop standing up for working people. ❤️

Andrew, you got this wrong.
I lived in Israel for four years. My relationship with Israel has been at the center of my life since I was a teenager in the 1960's and still is now.
The greatest cause of antisemitism in our time is the rising awareness of Israel's genocide against Palestinians and the widespread support for it and refusal to oppose it among many Jews outside Israel, including the Hamilton Jewish Federation and every synagogue here in #HamOnt.
Clr @NrinderWard3 said that she favours cutting Hamilton's ties with Israeli institutions in response to a survey sent to all candidates by @IndJewishVoices Hamilton.
Under international law, which the Supreme Court of Canada has ruled is adopted into Canadian law, and the UN Charter, all governments — including municipalities — are obligated to uphold human rights and international justice. Where a state commits apartheid, all others are obliged not to recognize the situation as lawful, not to render aid or assistance in maintaining it, and to cooperate in bringing it to an end. You should join Clr Nann in committing to cut Hamilton's ties to Israeli institutions.
If you want further understanding of this issue, we members of @IndJewishVoices Hamilton will be happy to talk with you.

Hamilton is known to be one of the hate capitals of Canada & once again, we see why ahead of the municipal election on Monday. From white supremacist attacks on Black candidate KoJo Damptey to this vile, incessant South-Asian hate against incumbent Councillor @nrinder_ward3 1/3

[Fight Police Corruption Toronto @FightPoliceTO]

Canadian Privacy Watchdogs are refusing to investigate the Crime Stoppers data breach, which released more than 1.5 million Canadian tipsters' private information submitted over the past 25 years.

These data breaches could leave Crime Stoppers liable for over $300,000 in damages per informant. In February 2015, the Superior Court of Justice awarded $345,000 in damages against the Durham Regional Police Services Board for releasing a confidential informant's identity. The informant was harassed so severely that she had to move and developed PTSD due to the hardships that she endured. The law should be applied to Crime Stoppers in the same way.

We need a real investigation into Crime Stoppers and our local police for privacy leaks of victims' and informants' personal information.

@MarzNova @AndreaHorwath Okay, then be against the environment. We can't eat money or drink water once it is poisoned.

Democracy, transparency, and integrity? Apparently not.

This is the same Rob Cooper who thinks he has a say in women’s reproductive rights.

Silencing people who simply want to listen is alarming. If he won’t respect our voices, why should Hamilton trust him to lead?

[Scarlett Gillespie AKA Jelena Vermilion @IsisIntrepid]

@EquityNetworkD Rob Cooper's team removed me from the Peoples Church event on Saturday even though I made no disruption and even though the proprietors of the church said I could stay. So it seems he is afraid of me even though there is no reason to fear me.

By not reporting to their audience the facts, the incident looks isolated rather than organized. That downplays how seriously we should be taking these groups, and doesn't give Canadians the whole picture.

[Nora Loreto @NoLore]

This week, Nationalist 13 has dropped two racist banners intervening in municipal elections: one in Steinbach and one in Hamilton.

Media widely did not report the name of the group in the Steinbach incident, however.

Why was that?

[Shazi @ShaziGoalie]

Remember all those ads in high schools pushing young Canadians into skilled trades? We were told there was a massive shortage and endless opportunities.

Now young apprentices in Ontario are speaking out about low wages, lack of training and struggling to find opportunities.

Were we sold another false promise?

May racists lose everything they hold dear, and may their racist violence come at a very, very high cost. Freedom of expression does not mean freedom from consequences.
Well done keep documenting and recording every violent incident like this.

As @IsisIntrepid said @AndreaHorwath should have been deferential & humble when asked by the first and only Indigenous candidate for mayor, Kevin Walker, why she wasn’t at a certain Powwow. Indigenous communities decide how well you’re showing up in solidarity, not you. 8/9

[Equity Network @EquityNetworkD]

When asked about his views towards 2SLGBTQI+ people and women, Cooper claimed that he was the target of “faith hate” & tried to use faith communities in Hamilton that are actually impacted by oppression and discrimination to deflect and avoid answering these questions. 6/9

[Equity Network @EquityNetworkD]

Rob Cooper’s answers to any questions about his harmful views towards marginalized groups and his connections to the far right white nationalist Christian Heritage party were rightly named by @IsisIntrepid as subterfuge and propaganda. 5/9

[Equity Network @EquityNetworkD]

@keaninloomis, you could have denounced Fromm’s presence at the table from the outset as @IsisIntrepid did. Why wait for the question? Your answers as to what you would do about Hate in the city were insufficient. 3/9
