@JaKephas Okay I’ll bite. I find Dave’s writing glib and lacking wisdom. Maybe you can’t get off this path, but Dave Oshana doesn’t have to be your guide. I don’t have any wisdom to offer either. All the best Jasun
@AndrewHayen Look what happens to politicians who campaign for moderate social democratic reforms: Sanders, Corbyn, Bill Shorten couldn’t even sell modest reforms of the insane Australian tax rorts without half of oz thinking he was some radical socialist
@ViewsParallax Just watched Escape from New York, found it pretty dreary and vapid tbh. I’m not a Carpenter guy though, couldn’t even finish the Thing cos I couldn’t care less about the characters. Halloween was great if a little slight, loved Christine though🤷♂️. Gotta catch up on They Live
@CtrlRetrnRpresd @nina__power I don’t begrudge anyone who wants trump dead. I do but I’m ambivalent about it. And I’m more than willing to admit that it could be a bourgeois reactionary hangover I need to address
@CtrlRetrnRpresd @nina__power Isn’t this an expression of slave morality though? After all N says the Jews invented slave morality, even though he shows the most contempt for the Christian ‘love your enemy’ version. I haven’t read him, but isn’t machiavelli like N against just deserts?
@SweetEggPerson Yes, I’m assuming CT is a sentient being who’s capable of experiencing grief and deep suffering. Maybe that makes me a bleeding heart libtard🤷♂️
@SweetEggPerson Gross dude, whether true or not your dehumanising smug analysis is part of the desacralisation of tragedy you supposedly decry. Anyone critiquing this form of public grieving should do it with compassion and not with cheap twitter posts🤮
@turingcop @nina__power My brain might have been rotted by too much zizek and not enough poststructuralism but I suspect that we all do desire/believe we can attain a pre-lapsarian state of unity whether we disavow it or not. Most Political/religious ideology seem to function on the very premise that
@nina__power @turingcop ‘authentic’ un-alienated experience of the world. I’m not sure we can ever overcome the paradox that humans are both irreducibly a part of nature and always experience ourselves as partially alienated from it. I don’t think post or trans-humanism has much to offer either
@nina__power @turingcop Haven’t we learnt from psychoanalysis that subjectivity itself is already a form of alienation? Maybe we need to create new mythologies that recognise our part in nature, our somatic experience and social interconnectedness without succumbing to the fantasy that we can have an
@Nahalati@BallouxFrancois I think there is a place for consequentialism and deontology but grounding your whole ethical philosophy on one or the other is nuts. Not as nuts as objectivism😂.
@Nahalati@BallouxFrancois Oh lol, even worse than the other two. I think many problems in the twentieth century would have been avoided if people didn’t try to base their ideology off one person. Try Nietzsche for a good non-liberal critique of utilitarianism and deontology
@Nahalati@BallouxFrancois I’d say they’re pretending to be deontological while disavowing the utilitarian trade-offs that are inevitable. Pure utilitarianism is grotesque, pure deontology is bad faith denial of the complexity of the world.
