Some of the Muslims (and Christians) in the comments of this video are upset that I had an Ismaili on to give an overview of Islam. In case you didn't know, Ismailis are a minority denomination within Islam (they account for less than 1% of all Muslims). Moreover, many Muslims believe that Ismaili's are heretics. Why have a heretic on to explain Islam?

A couple thoughts. First, the point of this video wasn't to promote any particular branch of Islam. The point of the video was to outline the basic tenets of Islam. Anyone sufficiently educated in Islam could have served this purpose (including an atheist). I chose @KhalilAndani because he's an expert in Islam, is a gifted communicator, and teaches students for a living on this very subject. His denominational background does not determine his ability to explain Islamic belief.

Second, this complaint is nothing more than an ad hominem. Even if it's true that Dr. Andani is a heretic (something he vehemently denies), it doesn't follow that any of the information he actually presented in this video is inaccurate. This is similar to folks that only listen to overweight chefs. Just because a chef is skinny, that doesn't mean that you can't learn how to cook tasty food from them.

Lastly, I want to say that, as Christians, we ought to be engaging with the best that our religious (and non-religious) peers have to offer. Just like there are more plausible and sophisticated forms of Christianity, the same is true for Islam.

I had a great time recording with Dr. Andani and learned quite a number of things throughout his presentation. We're currently developing ideas for future streams where we take a look at the theological inconsistencies of the most popular Dawah bros. That should be a lot of fun!

Secondly, those who claim to be "Muslims" and believe Ismailis are not part of Islam should know that there are 73 sects in Islam and every sect accuse other sect.
