Dear Student-athletes,
If you have to be told to:
• Show up on time
• Compete
• Attend class
• Do your work
• Train hard
• Fuel up & hydrate
• Get proper rest & recovery
• Study your plays
• Give your all
… You’re not REALLY that passionate about the game!

You don't change your culture with a meeting or a speech or a book study or a conversation. You change your culture by living a better standard each day.
Do the work.
"It's feeling vs. choice. Are you going to do what you feel like doing or are you going to choose to do the things you need to do to accomplish the goals that you have?"
Average players make an effort when they 'feel like it.'
Great players choose to make a relentless effort.
Sometimes in life we start learning about the appreciation & commitment we should’ve had for the people & moments in our lives too late. At least when you reach that moment you can start right then & there, knowing there are moments you will never get back. Give today everything.
Sometimes you believe in people/players more than they believe in themselves. Keep believing in them. Nothing bad ever came from believing in someone. As you believe in them, you’ll likely see their own belief in themselves rise again. We can all rise again after setbacks.
“Coach, I can’t do it”.
You are signaling a lack of self belief to your coach & outwardly expressing doubt.
“Coach, I can do it”.
The language of “can” speaks to your belief in yourself & your abilities.
The language of “can’t” is mentally paralyzing. Choose fluency in “can”
It's not your coach's fault.
It’s not your employer’s fault.
It's not the official's fault.
It's not your parent’s fault.
It’s not the school’s fault.
It's not your teacher's fault.
It's not your teammate's fault.
Own your successes AND failures.

If it’s worth it, you will fight for it.
If it’s worth it, you won’t give up when it gets hard.
If it’s worth it, it’s worth your time, commitment, energy, sacrifice, & focus.
If it’s worth it then it’s worth fighting the good fight.
You just have to decide what’s worth it.
In leading you have to train yourself to see the good in people first, before seeking to address any negatives. You can’t list 10 negatives & say “follow me”! No one is perfect, everyone is flawed but everyone has great attributes. Highlight those and over time seek improvements!
Players: be loyal to yourselves. Be loyal to the food/rest you need to play well. Be loyal to the work you need to do to be your best. Be loyal enough to your potential that you become super disloyal to your excuses. Be loyal to all the people that helped you get to this moment.
