This past Sunday as Italians celebrated
the feast of Pentecost, "petal rain"(or pioggia di petali) showered down through Rome’s Pantheon’s central oculus to symbolize the descent of the Holy Spirit. Firefighters scale the building to make the petals rain for this Roman tradition
In 1911, the @nypl lions, Patience and Fortitude, were carved by the Piccirilli brothers, Italian immigrants who settled in Mott Haven in the Bronx. The brothers carved many well known sculptures here in NYC and across the United States.
