In 2015, AIIMS announced at Vijaypur, Bilaspur, Guwahati and Classes are operating there.

In September 2020, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved the establishment of an AIIMS at Darbhanga in north Bihar at a cost of ₹1,264 crore under PMSSY.
