1/6 Jonny Bates – Jonny’s akathisia was misdiagnosed as psychosis, and he was prescribed an antipsychotic. Knowing this would likely make his akathisia worse, he refused to take it. He was then force-medicated. See comments for the rest of his story. 1/6 #akathisia
@Angryfire_@homegrown1510 I am glad to hear you are making progress. Slowly you will have more windows. I have used that same magnesium oil spray for years btw. 😊
@DrMcFillin_PsyD When your MD tells you your brain is sick when it's not and tells you you'll need drugs to "balance" it, what do you do?
20 yrs later you find out it was all a lie but it doesn't matter bc by that point you're disabled by the drugs & lost over half your life.
Thanks psychiatry.
@JDaviesPhD One of the things I learned about the MH system, & this realisation came late in the day, if you're injured by psych drugs you're at greater risk of further injury if you stay in the system. It can be like a spider's web, the more you struggle to get free the more you are caught.
Almost invariably, ppl who develop akathisia are not seen as having a predictable side effect of a powerful psychoactive drug'..they're 'labelled "m. ill"& are given bigger doses, then more & more drugs, until they are barely able to move but the inner torment continues unabated'
2 years tomorrow I started this process - 10% of previous dose of venlafaxine with (at least) 1 month between reductions. I am at ~6 mg (18 'beads'), stuck since end June due to #withdrawal symptoms.
It #shouldnotbethishard No support from Dr other than a prescription.
@nikki_cas I know it was stressful experience to go to dentist while being really sick during wd. I asked for the anaesthetic without adrenaline. I didn't notice any bigger harm because of it.
“What they don't tell you is that your body will shake the tremors because your nervous system is exhausted. What they don't tell you is that your ears will ring so loudly you won’t think you can take it another minute- it's unbearable.”

@Plantaholic1 Tapering schedules that some GPs suggest can be too rapid and also cutting a pill in half etc tapering methods in the end can be too much to handle. Antidepressant withdrawal can feel like a lonely process, I know.😕
You probably could avoid medication if you did the second column.
#Psychiatric drugs should not be a first-line treatment for mental health at all. Basic medical principle: Try non-invasive & lifestyle changes first.
Yesterday I had an appointment with a Neurologist in Derby. I'm now being referred to a Neuropsychiatrist and Movement Disorder Specialist in London. Thank you so much for the kindness and support that many of you have shown whilst I continue on this horrific journey. #Akathisia
Susan Bell always considered herself a resilient person. But after being prescribed more and more meds for what was once simple insomnia, she ended up with akathisia that almost drove her to suicide.
