Former biologist at PhD level, now working in IT. I often wonder why about many things. Especially injustice, lies and deceit at all levels of the establishment
A very honest view of psychiatry from a psychiatrist
"90% of the people who enter my office are not mentally ill. They are having distressing emotional and psychological experiences. I would estimate 80% of these experiences are due to relational trauma"

Last week, we saw an astonishing study about how “long-term antidepressant use is beneficial.” Here is my riposte in @Telegraph, with the fabulous help of @markhoro and @Peter Gordon. I'm afraid it's behind a paywall, but you can register for a free trial. https://t.co/BhttEs1GVW
My nervous system is continuously smoldering due to iatrogenic injury. Add even a small amount of stress or stimulation and this acts like an accelerant. Plunging my body and mind into an inferno. I can’t even escape in sleep. Every day is a decent into hell 😞 #prescribedharm
@jf_moore Major problem is that anything emotional is considered relapse and anything physical is w/d. All recorded symptoms could and probably are w/d esp considering all patients had been on ADs for 2 years. Still a long way to go! https://t.co/W4SN0F2uDa a good baseline for w/d symptoms

2 years tomorrow I started this process - 10% of previous dose of venlafaxine with (at least) 1 month between reductions. I am at ~6 mg (18 'beads'), stuck since end June due to #withdrawal symptoms.
It #shouldnotbethishard No support from Dr other than a prescription.
"Ms English was given several sick notes and it was agreed that her dose of the antidepressant, Escitalopram, would be increased to 20mg."

'Prescribed drugs a major clinical activity but often their use can lead to dependence and suffering #withdrawal symptoms.'

@jill_d35 I once heard a Dermatology Consultant say, "Most elderly patients are walking pharmacies" when talking to my Mum and realising she only took one medication (shes 91!). Polypharmacy has no basis in medical research!
New paper in World Psychiatry again demonstrates that in the long-term (6months and beyond), psychotherapy is superior to antidepressants. Authors suggest that clinical guidelines should be revised, recommending psychotherapy as first-line treatment

@_roseyesha @APAPsychiatric Unfortunately the US healthcare companies and orgs wont bit the hand that feeds, so highlighting the negative side of the drugs is rare.
@jill_d35@Alembisque "There's no bullion left" said Rishi the gravy train "and we can't tax the Duke as he's hiding in Amoral Castle". "We'll charge people to cross the railway" said Boris. 😂😂
@_roseyesha Thankfully, things are changing in the UK. The latest Maudsley Prescribing Guideline contain significant sections on Antidepressant Withdrawal symptoms and Stopping antidepressants. Same for benzos and major tranquillisers.

World Suicide Prevention Day tomorrow. RIP Ian Curtis. Your music was a big part of my youth.
I want to see Govts and healthcare play their part and accept psychiatric medications can do much harm. Pls be ready to help those who suffer from the very negative impacts they have
