@ModerateMD42@Polymarket Police and arresting authority are and always have been part of the executive branch. An arrest wouldn’t be an overreach of power, so long as the grounds for arrest are legal. Only trials and sentencing are under judicial purview.
@kalaelizabeth It’s not the best of all time by any stretch but I’m just happy to see Kingdoms of Amalur up there. A genuinely joyful game whose development history amuses me to no end.
I know it's easy to be doomer about AI but it needs to be stressed.
They had to LIE that they weren't using it AT ALL to get any of these VTubers on board. It was an IMMEDIATE dealbreaker. No ifs, ands or buts.
That's the public reputation of AI. A dirty and shameful liability.
@MrViktorian@TheExpanseRPG haven’t fucked with Larian in a bit, chudlord. Nice try tho. I’ve taken greasy shits more coherent than you. You really made the world a better place with this one. Sure your mama’s real proud of this magnum opus.
@VinLmar15@Armantamzerian@SE1642@TheExpanseRPG Also, people don’t refund a game because of poor critical reviews, that’s insane. they just avoid buying in the first place.
People refund because of poor experience with the product or its producer and they want their money back and to not own the product anymore.
@VinLmar15@Armantamzerian@SE1642@TheExpanseRPG fact of the matter remains, the AI assets were something that had to be patched. If they had simply never been there in the first place, the game would’ve been the same, but there would’ve been no controversy, and fewer refunds. AI is never good for games in the big picture.
@VinLmar15@SE1642@TheExpanseRPG Audience goodwill is a huge part of success in the modern industry. They’ve done a lot of harm to their reputations, and there’s a large contingent of gamers they’ve permanently lost as customers that they could’ve kept if they’d just made the games and… not used AI.
@Armantamzerian@SE1642@TheExpanseRPG Crimson Desert has also had over 1 million refund requests just in the past 10 days since the story broke, 1/3 of the copies it sold in the first 5 days.
Also, KCD2’s latest DLC has sold much worse than their first 2 since they started laying people off to replace with AI.
@Armantamzerian@SE1642@TheExpanseRPG Crimson Deserts numbers don’t even account for the people who will never buy it now.
The game may have done well and may still do well, but is it worth $60 million+ in lost sales and refunds vs just hiring 1-2 more artists to do your painting textures?

@JojoRaging@TheExpanseRPG 1 Given Owlcat ties to the war in Ukraine and how unethical AI is at all, what reason do we have to trust they won’t “accidentally” let AI assets slip in?
2. They’re trying to get off on a technicality. Using AI during ideation and prototyping is also shitty and it’s still slop.
@SE1642@TheExpanseRPG Hard disagree. Look at how many refunds Crimson Desert got when it was found they’d used AI. Look at how Warhorse’s KCD2 refunds have skyrocketed and how their base game and DLC sales have tanked since they started using AI. Gamers don’t want it and the market reflects that.
@JojoRaging@TheExpanseRPG Those placeholders could be made by humans. The AI is replacing the jobs of concept and technical artists. Just because they promise they’ll polish the turd before they serve it to you doesn’t change what it is at the core. There is no ethical way to use AI in game development.
