How to honor the fallen heroes:
Register to vote, and in 2027 put in power credible leaders with proven track record in good governance. Statements like "My Thief My Choice", and other such jokes should be a thing of the past. Being carried away by party euphoria to a point of electing people who can’t even read a bill, or sending to parliament wash-wash goons who only understand how to make money and nothing about governance and representation should also be a thing of the past.
Our leadership has really regressed over time, so has our country and this is something we have all played a part in. You just need to analyse the calibre of our MPs to see that. Let us be determined to cause a real change in the next election.
For now, forget storming State House. We cannot afford more loss of life and we also need to remember that in most cases, violent revolutions just plunge a country into an unending turmoil. Let us instead use this unity, energy and power that we have to keep Ruto’s administration on its toes, push for necessary reforms in public sector and guard against corruption, oppresive policies and negligence in service delivery; ensure that governors are not playing monkey games with our money; force MPs who we voted for to represent our will in parliament, not the will of their stomachs.
While at it, let us start identifying credible leaders from the ward level to the national level, and give them the support needed to get to the top. 2027 should not be about how much money you receive from a candidate, their tribe or party, but the kind of leadership that candidate has to offer.
That, my fellow Kenyans, is my considered submission on how we can take back our country from the self-serving and undeserving hands it is currently under.
MY instant reaction: President William Ruto could have withdrawn the Finance Bill a few days ago and saved lives. But he was obstinate, and I watched police shoot protesters dead for no reason at all
