@Nick_Metcalfe That should put paid to the arguments from some quarters that the Friday afternoon figures were down to people tuning in for House Of Games.
@Nick_Metcalfe If you accept that something had to change in order to move forward, this sounds like the best possible solution. Location was everything. It'll be different - but also the same. Like Centre Court.
@Nick_Metcalfe It's a little distracting but can't work out whether or not it has been digitally altered or whether it's because Ally Pally is big enough for the camera to be sufficiently far back so as not to distort the angle as much as you get in, say, the Crucible.
@Snooker_Chat Does the sparsely filled balcony at the Barbican this week not tell us something about the real world appetite for paying to watch snooker so far from the table that you need to rely on the screens? I've never been convinced that the Crubicle is that far from optimal as it is.
Is The Thursday Murder Club the first ever movie to feature a former James Bond sharing screen time with a former Bond super villain from his own run (i.e. Pierce Brosnan and Jonathan Pryce)?
@Nick_Metcalfe Having just returned from my second ever visit and having been lucky enough to catch the class of 92 weekend, I remain utterly perplexed as to why anyone could conclude that moving the event would achieve anything other than fundamentally cripple its appeal in almost every way.
@Nick_Metcalfe I hope so too. Last year was my first ever visit, a true life-long bucket list item ticked off and the furore definitely took something away from the experience (but fortunately not so much that I'm not coming back for more this time!).
@michael_cryne For some older examples, Brad Friedelโs Terminator (2 in particular) and Silvestriโs Predator spring to mind, if I understand your question correctly?
@nickwallis It occured to me on the way home that in a small way, we were channelling the original Fenny Compton meeting - a load of strangers coming together and realising we were not alone, in our case being addicted to live YouTube streams of an official enquiry!
If you are in or near Edinburgh this evening with an hour to kill, fancy coming along to a Q&A about the Post Office scandal and leaving with a signed book, well... I've got just the thing for you. Toppings Bookstore at 7pm. Would love to see you there.

@edinburghpaper Not all flood gates are closed. This was the scene at 22.00PM at Veitch's Square, Stockbridge. There's a residential care home less than 10 metres from here and the flood gate here is locked open.
@edinhelp @MrGawrjuhs @edinhelp This is the scene at 22.00 tonight. Can I suggest that we are way past sending an email and that whoever has the key to this gate is alerted immediately by the fastest means possible. There's a residential care home less than 10 metres from here.
@JamesSnooker I went to The Crucible for the first time ever this week. Yes this talk is making me sad too. I hope itโs just a hustle but itโs so obvious to me now how important that room is. Move it away, even just across the road and itโs effectively a new event with a brand new vibe.
