The African Debate Academy is running a termly debating competition that involves public speaking, debates and quiz sessions.

Earlier today, the government spokesman Dr. Isaac Mwaura, CBS gave a keynote address during the opening session of this term's competition at Strathmore University.

The competition brought together over 2,103 students from over 40 schools drawn from across the country and was themed around governance, geopolitics and patriotism.

Dr. Mwaura took the students down the memory lane, narrating his public speaking and debating days at Thika School for the Blind. During his primary school, he was the best student in English Public Speaking and retained the trophy as the best in Swahili public speaking in high school.

He also urged the students to keep on debating, and took them through the debating atmosphere in parliament where he had served for ten years, and holds the record of the highest number of bills and motions prosecuted before the house.

Dr. Mwaura also highlighted that the government is keen on supporting talents, and debating is among the items in the creative industry that the Kenya Kwanza administration is keen on developing, to even further prepare the participants for the World Schools Debate Format championship.
