In just one week:
A man was arrested for harassing a girl on the street for rejecting him in Abuja.
A 20 year old girl took her life because she was grapped by a content creator.
A male lecturer got involved In inappropriate conduct with a female student.
There is another chaos because of a guy who keeps creating silly contents with an underage girl.
A student's husband flogged a lecturer because he was trying to sleep with his wife to give her good grades.
These are just the ones we've heard of, now imagine the ones we don't know about.
I wish the men committing these crimes would do better. It's heartbreaking to wake up almost every day to news of another woman becoming a victim. For many women, simply existing comes with a constant sense of fear.
There are countless videos teaching men how not to spend money on women or how not to "simp," but where are the conversations teaching that NO means NO? Where are the lessons that rejection is not humiliation, and that self control and respect are essential parts of being a responsible male adult?
Parents also have a role to play by raising boys to respect boundaries, consent, and women. Society is quick to police women's morality, yet often fails to address the attitudes and behaviors that lead to these crimes, (the men involved)
It's painful to watch, and I hope the men who choose these actions become better human beings, for the sake of everyone in our society. And If they don't want to be better, then I hope they face the consequences of their actions.
My mum. She’s never insulted me in her life before.
If I broke the plate, she goes “who’s the blessed child that broke this plate?”
Never ever said one bad word to her kids.
