I don't follow people I don't like, I don't watch stories of people I don't like and I don't interact with people I don't like. Y'all got this weird ass obsession with keeping up with mfs you don't like and I find that soo strange!
You ever feel someone’s energy towards you changing and even though it hurts, you keep quiet coz you know there’s nothing you can do about it. So, you brace yourself and wait for what’s to come?
That's why I have 3 buckets for my career:
1. Jobs for Learning
This is where you learn the ropes. You work on real-life projects, stuff you never learn from tutorials, under a manager or supervisor. This is mostly internships, traineeships, or Graduate Trainee programs. The pay is low, but the learning is the payment.
2. Jobs for Leverage:
This sits in the middle. It's a lever for your next move. It builds on the experience from bucket 1, because now they can assign you tasks with minimal supervision. You start to build a track record. A lot of breakout startups sit here - they pay okay, but they give you massive growth.
3. Jobs for Earning:
This uses the compound interest of the first two. You're doing more managerial and strategic work, built on the technical knowledge and skills from the previous jobs. This is the type of job that pays the "wow" salary with incentives and equity.
Which category are you now? 1, 2 or 3?
At some point in your journey, you’ll realize freelancing can’t be the goal.
There has to be more.
Whenever that time comes, I hope you have it in you to be honest with yourself.
When someone genuinely dislikes you, it’s hard for them to hide it. You can see it in their facial expressions, hear it in their tone, and notice it in the little ways they dismiss or disregard you. Sometimes, the dislike shows itself before they even realize they’re revealing it.
I am now so interested in pursuing an MBA and MMP 👀
I have been excited to go deeper into learning about Organization, Business and Marketing combine with psychology, that's Fire 😊
Sounds like an interesting career path.
One thing I keep telling younger friends and colleagues is to develop depth in something.
Chase global opportunities. Apply for the fellowships. Go to the conferences. Build your network. Travel if you get the opportunity. Put yourself in rooms where you can meet people and see what is possible.
All of these things can change your life.
But somewhere along the way, make sure you are actually becoming very good at something.
Know something deeply. Develop a skill people can trust you with. Become the person who understands a subject beyond what can be picked up from a few articles or a weekend workshop.
Because opportunities can give you access, but access eventually exposes your level of competence.
You can get into the room through a fellowship. You can meet important people at a conference. You can build an impressive LinkedIn profile. You can collect certificates from some of the best institutions in the world.
Eventually, somebody will ask you to do the work.
Write the paper.
Analyse the data.
Lead the project.
Edit the story.
Build the product.
Explain the problem.
Manage the team.
Advise the organisation.
And at that point, there is nowhere to hide.
This is why I worry sometimes when I see young people becoming very good at chasing opportunities without spending enough time developing the competence those opportunities are supposed to accelerate.
Your twenties and thirties are a great time to explore. Try different things. Move across fields. Discover what interests you. I certainly do not believe everyone needs to spend their entire career doing one thing.
But exploration should still leave you with accumulated knowledge and ability.
If you have worked in climate for five years, you should understand climate issues much better than someone who arrived yesterday.
If you have covered elections for years, you should know the history, institutions, data, actors and debates around elections.
If you work in AI, go beyond knowing the latest tools. Understand how the technology works, the policy debates, the business models, the limitations and the important questions in the field.
If you are a journalist, learn to report and write exceptionally well.
Whatever it is, go deep enough that people can depend on what you know and what you can do.
And depth takes time.
It comes from reading. Practice. Repetition. Failure. Working with people better than you. Being corrected. Doing difficult assignments. Staying with a problem long enough to understand the things that are invisible from the surface.
Global opportunities are valuable. Networks matter. Visibility can help. I have benefited enormously from all three.
But none of them makes competence obsolete.
If anything, the more access you get, the more important competence becomes.
Because getting into the room is one thing.
Having something valuable to contribute when you get there is another.
Competence will never go out of fashion.

Nigeria is dangerously not inclusive.
I know this doctor that stammers. When he goes for interview, he sees his colleague spend up to 30 mins, but his interviews doesn't go past 5 mins. He could tell they just want to dismiss him and move to the next person.
The doctor went for his PLAB exam in England. A day was set aside for doctors with speech difficulty. They were given extra time and asked if the time would be enough for them. He passed the PLAB. In Nigeria, when he takes exam, he has to finish within the alloted time given to people without difficulty.
How do we expect perfection from people who are already with personal difficulties? We need to imbibe grace as a people.
@Wizarab10 The doctor didn't suddenly become more intelligent in England. The system simply removed a barrier that had nothing to do with his competence.
Sometimes people don't need sympathy. They need a fair opportunity to prove what they can actually do.

Before You Commit, Take Time to Know the Person!!!
Again, if you are a perceptive person, you will realize that no human being can pretend forever.
People can pretend for a while, they can hide their weaknesses, control their reactions, say the right things and show you only the parts of themselves they want you to see. But with enough time, life will eventually reveal them, pressure will reveal them, your disappointing them will reveal them, money will reveal them, success will reveal them, failing will reveal them. And sometimes, simply being around them for long enough will reveal who they truly are.
This is why you should never be in a hurry to commit your heart, your future or your life to someone you barely know.
Think about anything you truly understand. Whether it is a profession, skill, subject or even a hobby, deep knowledge usually comes from spending a great deal of time with it. You observe it, study it, ask questions, make mistakes, look deeper….
People are not different…
You cannot truly know a person simply because you have been talking to them for six months or because you are deeply attracted to them. You know someone by paying attention to them over time, you listen to what they say, but you also watch what they do. You observe how they treat people (immediately family members) who cannot benefit them, you watch how they behave when they are angry, disappointed, broke, successful, sick, stressed or ignored.
In love, you must do more than admire someone. You must study a person’s character and who they truly want to be.
Ask questions & difficult conversations about money, family, children, faith, responsibilities, friendships, boundaries, sex, ambition, failure, and expectations. Do not be afraid to confront uncomfortable subjects. Someone who looks perfect when everything is going well may look very different when life becomes difficult.

.
.
Familiarity does not only breed contempt. Many times, familiarity gives you a deeper appreciation of a good person. The more reasonable you are as a human being, the more you understand that nobody is perfect. When you spend enough time with a good person, you begin to see their weaknesses alongside their strengths and you can decide whether those weaknesses are things you can genuinely live with.
So please, take your time before you commit to someone.
See them in different seasons of life…
See them when they have nothing…
See them when they have plenty…
See how they behave when they are in control and when they are not…
See how they treat people who cannot help them...
See how they respond when they are told “no”…
See how they view money…
See how they handle disappointment…
See how they speak about their former partners…
See how they treat their parents, siblings, friends, children, workers and strangers…
And just as importantly, allow them to see you finish too.
Do not pretend to be someone you are not just because you want someone to love you. Let them see you when you are struggling, when you are uncertain, when you are successful, when you are tired and when you are not at your best.
Some people are obsessed with control, some are selfish, some are driven more by money than love, some settle for you because of age, pressure, comfort, or financial security, some have mot healed from previous relationships, some carry trauma you can not deal with, some lack common.
That is why time, observation, honest conversations and self-awareness matter so much in love.
Take your time to know people!!!!
I honestly want to work with an NGO, not as a volunteer though, but in an actual paid role. I want to provide help, do what I love, make an impact, and watch it pay my bills. 🥹❤️
