"Categorically, Min Aung Hlaing is not a president. He is a war criminal with a stolen title," writes @khinohmar.
"Reuters, Associated Press, Agence France-Presse, DW, & Al Jazeera English should stop calling him one."

With those 2 words—”Myanmar president”—one of the world’s most influential news agencies simply handed #MinAungHlaing the legitimacy he is seeking, neglecting 5 years of #airstrikes, #massacres, mass imprisonment & egregious violence he has instigated.

SAC-M & @Anfrel's new paper shows how the #Myanmar junta’s staged elections were engineered to ensure a predetermined outcome to the benefit of its proxy USDP.
“This was purely an exercise to create a “parliament” regardless of the will of the people."

#Myanmar: Relieved by long overdue release of President Win Myint & other prisoners from arbitrary detention, as well as commutation of death sentences. All those detained unjustly since the coup – including State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi – need to be released immediately and unconditionally. There must be an end to the unrelenting violence against all of Myanmar’s people - @volker_turk

Human rights know no border. We all have the obligation to promote and protect human rights, and to uphold international human rights and humanitarian laws that value the dignity and worth of every human being.
We join the call to reject the junta’s planned sham election and to demand a complete strategic reset in Myanmar.
Together with former Minister of Malaysia’s Foreign Affairs and current member of the House of Representatives of Malaysia Dato’ Sri Saifuddin Abdullah and former Minister of the Foreign Affairs of Thailand Khun Kasit Piromya, as well as former UN experts on Myanmar and founding members of @SpecialCouncil (SAC-M) Marzuki Darusman, Yanghee Lee and Chris Sidoti, we stressed that genuine and credible nationwide elections can only take place in Myanmar once an authentic and inclusive peace agreement has been secured, all fighting has stopped, all political prisoners have been released, all legitimate political parties can participate, and independent international election monitors are granted access—the only conditions in which a free and fair election is possible.
