On Monday in Copenhagen, MAP is filing a war crimes case against the Myanmar junta on behalf of a Denmark-based survivor. MAH's troops committed unimaginable crimes against her/her family. Press conference at the International Press Centre at 1100. Please spread the word.

Not for the first time, Myanmar refugees in South East Asia are being squeezed by domestic political considerations, which Min Aung Hlaing is exploiting to the full, not least to legitimise his illegitimate dictatorship https://t.co/WimUzhLT3O

[Chris Gunness: The Myanmar Accountability Project @MyanmarAProject]

Indonesia has the law, the file and the standing to lead ASEAN on accountability. A leader accused of genocide in Jakarta’s own prosecutors’ files does not belong on a state visit’s red carpet. Press on with the investigation instead. #ASEAN #JusticeForRohingya

[Chris Gunness: The Myanmar Accountability Project @MyanmarAProject]

In April Indonesia’s AG accepted its first universal jurisdiction case: genocide against the Rohingya, filed by survivor Yasmin Ullah and 10 Indonesians incl. ex-AG Marzuki Darusman. Welcoming the accused as an honoured guest would mock Indonesia’s own law. #Myanmar #Rohingya

[Chris Gunness: The Myanmar Accountability Project @MyanmarAProject]

Myanmar’s dictatorship says Min Aung Hlaing may visit Indonesia. Jakarta already holds a genocide file against him, accepted by prosecutors in April under Indonesia’s new universal jurisdiction law. Act on it; don’t roll out a red carpet. #Rohingya

[Chris Gunness: The Myanmar Accountability Project @MyanmarAProject]

The Rohingya in Malaysia are spared the brutalities of the genocidal regime that would have come with repatriation, but they remain an excluded, vulnerable population, urgently needing protection, accountability for genocide & a just & lasting political solution to their plight.

[Jonathan Head @pakhead]

At his press conference with @anwaribrahim in KL Min Aung Hlaing said Myanmar would only take back those with verified citizenship. This means no Rohingyas will be going back under this agreement, despite Anwar saying this visit was meant to deal with the Rohingya refugee problem

[Chris Gunness: The Myanmar Accountability Project @MyanmarAProject]

The junta says it has sought Interpol Red Notices against exiled journalists. Interpol's rules bar political cases, & it refused a near-identical junta request in 2022. As a former journalist & Director of MAP, I offer solidarity/support to truth-tellers everywhere #PressFreedom

[Chris Gunness: The Myanmar Accountability Project @MyanmarAProject]

Bravo, Ambassador @AmbassadorTun. At the UN Third Committee on 6 Oct he told the world to reject the junta, hold those who commit atrocities accountable and stand with the people of Myanmar, even as the generals claim to have revoked his status. Principled and clear. #Myanmar

[Chris Gunness: The Myanmar Accountability Project @MyanmarAProject]

Sickening to see the junta claim they are rescuing Myanmar national abroad from hardship.

[Josh Sheehan @sheehanj920]

the Myanmar regime itself has shared new figures, also noting 1905 individuals returned from Cambodia & 26 from India: https://t.co/qdR8SzgYTh

8041 individuals noted returned from Malaysia from January-August via air (+ the 1476 now returned by sea):

[Chris Gunness: The Myanmar Accountability Project @MyanmarAProject]

Dozens killed in Myanmar by recent junta airstrikes. The response from ASEAN chair, the Philippines? It is "closely monitoring" and "expresses concern", and it will be "guided by consensus". No condemnation. Massacres need more than diplomatic throat-clearing. #ASEAN #Myanmar

[Chris Gunness: The Myanmar Accountability Project @MyanmarAProject]

Myanmar nationals detained in 15 IDCs have been returned: 1,476 by sea on 29 September, 4,021 by air from 1 June to 30 September. They are also at risk, eg of forced conscription. Please Dear Journos, don't forget those returned by air. 2 days ago another 163 were flown back

[Chris Gunness: The Myanmar Accountability Project @MyanmarAProject]

Thank you Jonathan. You are 100% right. But there is a palpable fear among the Rohingya communities in Malaysia where they have always been 10th class non-citizens, hence my call for international protection. & their fears only grow in light of the "dance" between MAH & Anwar.

[Chris Gunness: The Myanmar Accountability Project @MyanmarAProject]

While Anwar literally embraces #MinAungHlaing, junta troops are bombing areas in the south struggling to deal with floods https://t.co/TcRCHZkfup State-sponsored terrorism is the new norm in ASEAN thanks to Myanmar's dictatorship.

[Jonathan Head @pakhead]

@MyanmarAProject Fair point Chris but I’d be amazed if any Rohingyas are ever sent back to Myanmar. There is nowhere for them to go - the regime is not going to end its ban on them living outside Rakhine. Anwar’s dance with MAH is to show Malaysians he’s doing something about the Rohingya issue.

[Chris Gunness: The Myanmar Accountability Project @MyanmarAProject]

MAP condemns the abhorrent treatment of the Rohingya/Burmese in Malaysia. Genocide victims/refugees need international protection from @UNHumanRights @Refugees. They must not be handed over to the genocidal Burmese junta.

[Chris Gunness: The Myanmar Accountability Project @MyanmarAProject]

The ICC accuses Min Aung Hlaing of deporting Rohingya OUT of Myanmar. Now Malaysia's PM Anwar is preparing to roll out the red carpet so the junta can deport them BACK. Rights groups call it a potential "death sentence." This is not diplomacy, it's complicity. #JusticeForRohingya

[Chris Gunness: The Myanmar Accountability Project @MyanmarAProject]

Min Aung Hlaing is heading to Malaysia to discuss deporting more Rohingya to the Myanmar military that drove them out through genocide. He should be in The Hague given the ICC arrest warrant against him for deportation/persecution of the Rohingya. #AccountabilityNow #Rohingya

[Chris Gunness: The Myanmar Accountability Project @MyanmarAProject]

Malaysia hands over 100s of unprotected Myanmar refugees to the murderous junta which just this week carried out the Kyauktaw market massacre, killing 50+ people. Hundreds of thousand face a similar fate. Why is @Refugees not raising a global outcry? @UNReliefChief, + you?

[Shafiur Rahman @shafiur]

Malaysia is putting people on a Myanmar Navy ship, UMS Moattama, and sending them back into the hands of the military they fled. Calling it “repatriation” does not make it safe. For anyone at risk of persecution, this is refoulement by sea.

[Chris Gunness: The Myanmar Accountability Project @MyanmarAProject]

Given that China/Russia will veto, @MyanmarAProject demands that national courts in Indonesia, Timor-Leste & the Philippines (where we have cases) investigate.

[Progressive Voice @PVamplify]

🚨 The junta is losing ground on the battlefield — and taking it out on children. 214 children killed in under a year in #Myanmar — 61% by junta airstrikes.

🔴 UN Security Council must refer the junta to #ICC.
🔴 Sanction the junta & its enablers.

Myanmar's generals bomb markets because they believe no court will ever reach them. Universal jurisdiction says otherwise. The @UN_HRC must open investigations into the #Kyauktaw massacre now. War crimes have no statute of limitations. #Accountability

[Chris Gunness: The Myanmar Accountability Project @MyanmarAProject]

Kyauktaw is not an aberration. A school in the same township in 2025. Mrauk-U hospital in December. Now a market. Every airstrike has a chain of command, from pilot to general. Every name can be documented. Every one can be prosecuted. #WarCrimes #Myanmar
