The MTA has awarded the construction contract for full station rehabilitations at Bellerose and Floral Park.

The work will include a new elevator at Bellerose and the replacement of Floral Park’s escalator with a wider, modern one—improving accessibility, reliability and the overall customer experience at both stations.

As we celebrate Disability Pride Month, projects like these reflect our continued commitment to removing barriers and building an LIRR that better serves everyone.

💧 La senadora Marissa Jiménez propone estudiar la instalación de plantas de desalinización de agua en Puerto Rico, como se hace en Islas Vírgenes, California y otros lugares.

🚰 Aunque estudiar el tema no es mala idea como plan B, el verdadero problema de Puerto Rico no es la falta de agua, sino que de cada 100 galones que produce la AAA, unos 63 se pierden por salideros y tuberías rotas.

🌧️ De hecho, Puerto Rico está entre los primeros 30 países del mundo con más lluvia y agua por cápita, y recibe unas 70 pulgadas de lluvia al año, de las cuales apenas usamos una fracción para consumo.

💸 Desalinizar sale mucho más caro, hasta 400% más que el agua del acueducto en algunos casos, así que apostar a eso sería como si Venezuela comprara petróleo o Estados Unidos le comprara gas a Qatar.

🔧 El problema de fondo es la falta de mantenimiento y el mal uso de los recursos, algo que se arrastra por años pese a que el costo del agua sigue subiendo.
