I have stayed silent, but I've decided it's time to speak out about Pell City Football being banned from the playoffs.
I can't sit back and watch something be taken away from these young men that makes some of the greatest memories they'll ever make. These are moments they'll carry with them for the rest of their lives.
We teach our kids that hard work, sacrifice, and commitment pay off. If this opportunity is taken away, what message does that send? That hard work doesn't matter?
I don't condone breaking rules if rules were  broken. What I do know is the heart of these young men. I've watched them overcome adversity year after year. I've seen them fight to change the narrative—to prove they are more than what people expected of them, to show that they matter.
This team has worked to become the generation that restores a championship standard on and off the field for a city with one of the best communities and support systems around.
What we often forget as adults is that this affects far more than just the football team. It affects the youth who look up to these players, the band, the cheerleaders, the students, and an entire community. It affects parents who have watched their sons sacrifice countless hours, miss vacations, family events, and other opportunities, all to for their son to pursue something special alongside their brothers—memories they'll tell their children and grandchildren about one day.
Even though we came up short in the playoffs the past two years, I personally witnessed the impact those playoff runs had on that town. For the first time in more than a decade, this team gave Pell City something to rally around. They brought back a fighting spirit that spread throughout the entire community. They deserve that chance again!
My prayer is that God touches the hearts of those making this decision. I hope they find the wisdom, compassion, and grace to allow these young men the opportunity they have worked so hard to earn.
These players deserve the chance to compete. They deserve the chance to finish what they started.
