@LeStephCurry@cavsfan_421@NoLayingUp Well, it was on 9, not 2. And your statement shows you have never competed at a high level in golf, especially a match play type situation.
It also showed how unserious Bryson is. “Let’s flip a tee for it”. That’s weekend scramble crap. Wouldn’t even happen in a HS meet.
A few clear-eyed thoughts on the Bryson drama the morning after:
⚪️ By the literal letter of the law, it's probably a penalty.
⚪️ The context is the issue. Stuff like this and far worse go unpenalized on a daily basis.
⚪️ It makes giving Bryson a penalty here incredibly harsh and unfairly applied, because there's no consistency for when the hammer comes down.
⚪️ I suspect this is the R&A wanting to make an example of someone to clamp down on this tactic more generally, and encourage more self-policing.
⚪️ The problem is the tour's lack of enforcement undermines that immediately. Slow play, club throwing — these go essentially unchecked on a week-in, week-out basis.
⚪️ What we witnessed last night was the product of that: A certain behavior pushes the limit then quickly becomes the norm, which forces majors into having to make a controversial decision to uphold certain standards or else see them slip further.
⚪️ When it happens, the individual player understandably feels harshly done by, because in their minds, they're not doing anything different or unusual than everyone else does all the time.
@tweeth_mitchell He avoided the tall grass (and almost stumbled) going back. Then just stomped on the tall grass approaching the ball. And then swung the club right where he stomped. After watching a few times, it was too obvious.

@BarryKolwack86@KVanValkenburg No, guy just made ~10M already that year and had a chance to be a legend in his prime. I can see it if you are really young or at tail end of career and they throw money at you. But something’s are more important than money.
