Today, Rwanda Biomedical Centre, together with partners, convened experts from laboratories, infectious diseases, and academia to discuss findings from the assessment of Rwanda’s capacity for genomic surveillance.
Opening the workshop, DG @CMuvunyi highlighted #Rwanda’s experience responding to outbreaks, supported by strong laboratories, disease surveillance, and a committed #healthworkforce. He stressed that genomic surveillance is more than technology; it helps us detect health threats early and protect our health workers, scientists, and communities.
Rwanda is investing in stronger #genomicsurveillance to detect outbreaks early, understand how diseases change, guide faster action, and use scientific evidence to make better public health decisions. This is a key investment in Rwanda’s #healthsecurity and preparedness.

“Commitments alone do not save lives. Delivery does.” Prof. Joseph MUCUMBITSI
Prof. @DrMucumbitsiJ, Chairperson of the Rwanda NCD Alliance officially welcomed participants to the first National Dialogue on NCDs 2026, taking place today in Kigali.
As Rwanda marks the Global Week for Action on NCDs 2026, @DrMucumbitsiJ called for a decisive shift from commitments to measurable action, emphasizing the need to accelerate implementation, break down silos, mobilize sustainable domestic investment, strengthen accountability, and put people living with NCDs at the centre.
He also underscored that NCDs are not only a health issue, but an economic, social, development and equity issue requiring leadership across sectors.
Under the theme “Leadership in Focus: From Commitments to Delivery: Advancing Multi-Sectoral Accountability and Sustainable Financing for NCDs in Rwanda,” the dialogue calls on all stakeholders to turn commitments into clear priorities, responsibilities, financing and action.
The commitments have been made. The evidence is clear. The opportunity is before us. It is Time to Lead.
