@KrisWysong I would. But you're also using the worst example. Competent designers have shown that sliding the number forward can be effective and actually look beautiful comparatively. It's all about being more intentional with your work.

Empty space is still empty space. It looks uglier with empty space evenly distributed, to be totally honest.

It wouldn't solve anything.
