We have to have some quality social studies at the elementary level. Our kids deserve it. Great day spent looking at the new standards and diving into the K- 5 scope and sequence @cesa2wi with @WisDPIsocstu
#ThoughtForTheDay If we expect all support staff to invest in kids & perform at the same high level that we expect from our teachers & admin, then we need to ensure that they are all included in the same high level of professional learning as the rest of us...via #Culturize
@C_Hendrick Every 12-year-old I have ever met has a growth mindset for car-driving (Can you do this now? No. Will you be able to do this if you want to? Yes.). What we need to do is to get students to see mathematical ability in the same way.
"Having the materials is not enough. Teachers need professional learning that supports them in using their materials." Great day of learning with @sjbriggs, @KateGerson, and @EdReports. #wimaterialsmatter
I have learned that smiling at students and calling them by name, goes a long way. This is not a profound truth... but it is an important one. Connecting with kids is a big deal. It doesn’t take much... but it almost always starts with a smile.
Working on listening skills and testing our reaction time. When the students hear the number 3 the first one to get the cone scores a point, best of 3 then we rotate. @lutzkekids@JBowers_edu@kstrandt1
Students self assessing themselves on how they did in P.E. for the class period. Working on being honest and reflecting on how they did. @JBowers_edu@kstrandt1
@lutzkekids@ParkviewSD @Flipgrid @MalinowskaGr5 @KimJohn59391754 @stelter_mary@SteveLutzke There was some #FlipgridFever with the math dept. on Friday afternoon. @KimJohn59391754 helped them create exit tickets for their classes. I can't wait to see them in action!
“Tomorrow, we won’t be able to control the weather, the attitudes of the kids, or the number of annoying emails that flood our inbox. But...we can control the number of times we smile, the number of high 5’s we give, &the energy we bring to work.“~ @SteeleThoughts 🙌🏼 #BuildGBSD
"Inspiration is the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative."
PES teachers spent the morning with @Holtz_Di working on reading and writing instruction. #ParkviewSD#ParkviewElementary
If a student turns an assignment in late, it doesn’t mean the student knows the content less.
Similarly, just because a student turns it in on time, doesn’t mean the student has the content mastered.
Focus on assessing learning, not behaviors.
Do flexible classrooms work? "[They] are successful because they go hand in hand with a change in pedagogy...Changing the layout of your classroom will almost certainly have no impact at all—if you don’t change your teaching too." https://t.co/fMSBB8CWjE
