There is a noticeable difference between people passionate about practicing their craft and those who want to solve problems using their craft.
Good teams need a mix of both.
Organisations should continuously ask:
What culture are we designing right now?
Are we intentional?
Cultures are being tested these days. Kudos to those who remember their values and principles.
Devotion to any single value has a price and trades off against other values.
If you want to deeply understand any person or entity, you must seek to understand how they think about the exchange rate.

Synchronous: leads to deeper alignment but slows down the more participants we have. Information throughput is severely limited.
Asynchronous: has better information throughput but it's easy to get disconnected from others over time.
Balance is the key.
The more we work with people virtually the more I see a need for a structured mix of synchronous and asynchronous collaboration. If we get the mix right we tend to get good results. If not, the results suffer.
