Clubs also fully own their branding, operations, and assets. Usually a closed league centrally owns branding etc

@J_Hunt1123 @mekncl @BerryPauluws @JDNalton Some have. Corpus Christi FC, Fort Wayne FC, and Sarasota paradise actually debuted this year in USL1. Sporting cascades FC is expected to move up soon and there’s a new ownership project in Ventura county, CA looking for a 2027 entry to USL1

@J_Hunt1123 @mekncl @BerryPauluws @JDNalton You’d have to ask those teams. Some don’t want to. Most likely don’t qualify. Like DetCity is likely going to apply for USLP - but they don’t actually qualify yet and so they can’t and they haven’t announced that they will.

@J_Hunt1123 @mekncl @BerryPauluws @JDNalton Then most likely they still need to qualify due to PLS. D3 teams need to have a principle owner worth 10M for starters. All in all, it’s kind of a non issue bc USLC can go down to 12 and be sanctioned.

@J_Hunt1123 @mekncl @BerryPauluws @JDNalton Because there aren’t any spots open right now. The USL-P doesn’t actually exist yet and 4 teams have announced they will be applying to the leagues. There’s a couple more that are working to still qualify.

@J_Hunt1123 @mekncl @BerryPauluws @JDNalton USL2 has 158 teams. The ones that meet USSF’s PLS will likely have the ability to apply for USL1 and USL1 teams will get promoted to USLC. USL is also open to outside teams joining.

@VanceLawrence @soccerreform I’m not sure that can be attributed solely to pro/rel, but to the original point, @soccerreform was referring to USL league one, not EFL. A USL valuation at $300m at that level would be like a 10x increase in value

@IHateSoccerPod @soccerreform @Holidayneeder No, why would they do that? There will we be a bunch of teams that stay in championship. And there are enough USL clubs to not require a backfill. Esp if at least 3 outside clubs join premier. This doesn’t count league 2 teams either.
