@dallycurtisaz@donwinslow Fair enough. Just trying to understand how anyone can support seeing the USA siding with countries that have been enemies numbers 1 and 2 of this country.
@dallycurtisaz@donwinslow Gosh, pls take your blinders off. You can not possibly have voted for this. If Biden or Obama had done this the GOP would have said it was the end of the world. You know you’d have thought and said as much (or,likely, much worse) if that were the case.
@pastramimachine All the time. Best way to get into a new topic, when one comes across cool paper. Following citation trail gets u to classics. Finding out who is currently citing said cool paper gets u current labs working on topic.
@RussellLeath@SolidEvidence What is happening now is a delay of the 9 month to an indefinite time period. I run a small lab, with 4 grad students, 1 shared postdoc and 2 staff (bioinformatics). I just had to give notice to staff. Can’t guarantee pay as my submitted grants are now in limbo.
@RussellLeath@SolidEvidence The bureaucracy in medical research has to do with the ~9 months that a grant goes through between its submission to NIH by a PI until actual funding of a small proportion of all submissions (~10%). During those months, grants are carefully assessed for impact, rigor, quality.
@RussellLeath@SolidEvidence It seems u r coming from a patient’s pov. That bureaucracy is not related to medical research but (1) to the transition between medical research and approval of new medical interventions - FDA, or (2) doctors and insurance companies.
@SecRubio@POTUS This horror show at the White House today, with the two top American politicians bullying the truly heroic leader of a country at war was the most shameful spectacle I have ever witnessed. I am envious of Ukrainians for being led by such an extraordinarily president.
@cspan This horror show at the White House today, with the two top American politicians bullying the truly heroic leader of a country at war, was the most shameful spectacle I have ever witnessed. Proud for and envious of Ukrainians, who are led by such a strong president.
Dr. Matthew Laurens at UMSOM's Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health, explains, "[There is a] very, very slim chance that fully vaccinated individuals can get the disease, maybe one to two percent. If you are vaccinated, you are protected." https://t.co/RBwDpdnUMm
@PLAYairlines has _the_ WORST service of _any_ airline. Rude and misinformed staff, double charging carry on during transfers, lack of support / info at airports. Many waiting for our bags at Dulles interNatl after diverted flight. Been 3 hrs. No one from the airline here.
Congrats to Nick Palmateer on +1 pub from his PhD work @GenomeScience@UMBaltimore in which we identify multigene family members with orthologous (syntenic and most similar) copies across multiple Theileria species. Do they retain same function? TBD... https://t.co/KHRaQCmQMZ
Congratulations, @scienceempress Tonya Webb, for the outstanding work you continue to do @UMmedschool and for all the students you continue to inspire for a career in STEM!!

🔬CONFIRMED:
New insecticide can kill resistant malaria-mosquitoes
🦟 In an effort to address the issue of malaria-mosquito resistance to treated bed nets, scientists @ifakarahealth, @SwissTPH, and partners, have now confirmed that a new insecticide, “chlorfenapyr,” can both kill the notorious insects and cut down infection in communities.
✍️ Published in the @BioMedCentral journal, the results mark a significant step forward toward the reduction of #malaria infection in communities not just by killing mosquitoes, but also by making them less likely to spread the disease.
