@CombyLaurent1 Oh man, not my usual genre, but I vividly remember this game and its wild modding scene with all sorts of weird vehicles. I can still hear the pedestrians scream “maniac” and the announcer saying “cruising is a great way to get the lay of the land, if you know what I mean”.

@RedMeowrine But either way it’s not the kind of thing that can be “proved beyond a doubt” in the way suggested. Periodizations are intellectual constructs that help us categorize information and narratives, and are thus interpretive. It isn’t a hard science with a yes/no binary answer.

@RedMeowrine There are active debates in this area along a spectrum between “it was a catastrophe that marked a stark turning point” and “societies don’t fall they merely transform into different modes of society”, with lots of reasonable points in between.
