Did you read Stephen King's The Stand and wonder what was happening in the rest of America during the Captain Trips outbreak of June 1980?
I did too.

John Cleese nails the linguistic sleight-of-hand. When basic human rights concerns women’s safety, child protection, free speech are branded 'hard right,' we've lost all perspective. Defending Enlightenment values isn't extremism; it's common sense. Time to reclaim 'sensible' from the spin doctors.

@authorerinJ It depends on who they are and the degree to which I am comfortable that they won't be pissed about it. I don't have axes to grind, and if I did, I wouldn't do it publicly in my writing.
Hardest part of writing isn’t writing. It’s naming characters and convincing myself I’m allowed to share the work. The fire to write is strong. The imposter syndrome is louder. Still showing up.

@authorerinJ Most of the time the MC and other important characters have names similar to people I know, or have known. Always as a loving "I remember you" kind of gesture. Sometimes I just have to suck it up and give them a name. Simple ones like Sam Spade, and Jack Reacher are all taken.
