Stimulus checks lit the fuse on the highest inflation in 40 years.

It feels like free money when one household gets the stimmy. But when $1.9 trillion is chasing the same number of goods, we get a record high inflation of 9.1%.

Same when you stand up at a concert to see better, but then you’re back at square one when everybody stands.

This is the fallacy of composition in economics where a benefit that is accrued by one person is dissipated when it is handed to a large group simultaneously.

But it feels good when it hits and politicians can later blame something else for why your purchasing power is decimated.
