This is the famous Bible cross-reference graph.
In 2007, computer scientist Chris Harrison and Lutheran pastor Christoph Römhild mapped 63,779 cross-references in the King James Bible. The bars along the bottom are all 1,189 chapters, Genesis to Revelation. Bar height is the number of verses (Psalm 119 is the tallest). Each arc is one link between chapters, colored by how far apart they are — which is why it looks like a rainbow.
Those links cover shared people, places, phrases, quotations, and themes across 66 books written over roughly 1,500 years, by about 40 authors, on three different continents, in three different languages.
