How is it that @BilldeBlasio getting the money to successfully launch UPK a loss while @ZohranKMamdani getting the money to launch childcare a win?

@ClaytonGuse If I order sushi every other week from the same establishment and then stop for a few months. It currently looks like NY would consider a personalized 20% coupon to try and win me back “surveillance pricing”.
@ClaytonGuse For example, NY wants to restrict a new local pizzeria’s ability to offer neighbors a coupon as “surveillance pricing” unless that coupon is offered to everyone in the entire state. Other states do not believe that is “surveillance pricing”.
Wow. NYC looking to copy the state’s only in the nation ban on coupons, discounts and promotions. While all other states rightfully focussed on price increases, NY’s politicians want to put massive restrictions on offering ways to save money.

What if two New Yorkers walked into the same store and paid different prices for the exact same item, simply because their personal data was mined?
That’s unfair, and amid an affordability crisis, it’s unacceptable. Today, the @NYCCouncil is introducing major legislation to crack down on surveillance pricing and exploitative dynamic pricing practices in New York City. https://t.co/CaAs6snRfS
@jackplobel Pretty clear ban: “Bona fide custom discount" does not include any reduction or change in reference price based on personal data “ …. and it lists a handful of small exemptions like military veterans as long as the consumer told us they are a military veterans.
@jackplobel I asked for a correction first thing this morning since the state bill explicitly bans almost all discounts. Are you saying the city council’s bill allows it?

2022 ban aside, this scenario already violated standard NYC lease language, most building’s master insurance policies, renters insurance if you had it, and probably chapter 225 of state MDL. https://t.co/seR2OR6S7M
As a longtime renter in NYC who traveled a lot for work, when Airbnb was allowed I was able to recoup ~1/3 of my rent by subletting while I was away + hosted scores of intrepid often overseas travelers looking for a more authentic way to explore less-traveled parts of the city.
This just isn’t true. ADR likely hasn’t even outpaced inflation over the past decade. And the real hit to supply would be condo conversions, and maybe in the future, perhaps, eventually zoning change.

When NYC effectively banned Airbnb, the primary effect was that hotel prices skyrocketed. So not only is housing still expensive, but now lower-income people can’t even visit. Super helpful, great job everyone.
