Shira Gvili, the sister of Ran Gvili, spoke to the New York Post, saying that the recent antisemitic attack in Australia has only deepened her family’s pain.

“Seeing those images brought back memories of October 7. It sincerely broke my heart the moment I saw the news about what happened in Bondi Beach,” she said. “I have many friends who live there, so I immediately started messaging them. I couldn’t calm down until they all responded.”

Shira said it was excruciating to see “all these antisemites around the world” encouraged in the wake of October 7.

“We don’t deserve that. As Jews, we celebrate life, we honor life. We deserve to live in peace and in quiet,” she said, adding that the Bondi Beach attack reinforced for her the painful reality that the Jewish people “don’t have a safe place.”

“Rani is a symbol, and we cannot allow him to be left there,” she said. “We must bring him home safely to Israel.”
