Okay, this is, I think, the most epic Mickelson gambling story extant. From "Phil":
Tom Candiotti, the former big-league pitcher, was once
among a big group of friends Mickelson invited to Las Vegas for the opening day of the NFL season. They woke up early in Scottsdale and flew to Vegas in
Mickelson’s plane. A cavernous suite at the Bellagio awaited, outfitted with a breakfast buffet and enough TVs to watch every game simultaneously. Mickelson
had prepared a tip sheet with his thoughts on each game. The whole crew walked down to the sports book to place their bets. Says Candiotti, “We were kind of standing around, not sure if we should let Phil go first. Finally he says, ‘You guys go ahead because when I place my bets it might move the line.’ ”
(Let that sink in for a minute.)
The entourage went back upstairs and it was like a frat party on steroids: the fellas were tossing around a football and tackling each other on the plush sofas. “Then the games started and things got serious,” says Candiotti. “Phil swept every morning game. He was up over a million dollars.” Mickelson lost only a game or two in the afternoon, increasing his haul. “We were flying home that night, but it’s Phil’s plane, so we’re not gonna leave until he wants to, obviously,” says Candiotti. “He goes down to play baccarat, and he’s
struggling. We practically needed a lasso to get him out of there. He stewed all the way to the airport because he gave a lot back at baccarat. *A lot*.”
@ryannovakk I’m all for takin shit in a back and forth but no need when a player isn’t doing anything to you and your team is up big. She was the 4highest scorer on her team that game anyway.
ok, let's see here
so Kyler Murray gets $230,500,000 with $189,500,000 guaranteed after proving nothing & going 22-23-1 as a starter
and Aaron Rodgers gets $50,271,667 a year with $150M guaranteed at 38-years old
and DeShaun Watson gets $230,000,000 guaranteed after over 20 lawsuits were filed against him for sexual misconduct and he sat out a full season
and you're telling me there are half-a-dozen teams…
most of which have been TERRIBLE for years
posted TERRIBLE records last year
had to cycle through 2-3 quarterbacks because they HAVE NO ELITE OPTIONS and
HAVE NO FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK ON THE ROSTER
…can decide in less than an hour that they don't want:
a 26-year old quarterback IN HIS PRIME
who won the MVP
whose team spent the #1 LEAST ON OFFENSE of any team in the NFL the last 4 years
whose team gave him the #2 CHEAPEST WR corps to work with
whose RB-rooms were decimated by injury two straight years
who had to do virtually EVERYTHING FOR HIS TEAM to will them to win
who is 46-19 as a starter
who STILL took his team, in the toughest conference in football, to:
#3 AFC seed in 2022 at 8-4 before injury
#3 AFC seed in 2021 at 8-3 before injury
#5 AFC seed in 2020 at 11-5
#1 AFC seed in 2019 at 14-2
But you have no interest in talking to him?
you have no interest in negotiating directly with him?
you have no interest in proposing a deal to see what happens?
and you decided all of that within 60 minutes of the Ravens giving him the non-exclusive franchise tag
because you have such a buttoned-up organization that is always forward thinking and ahead of the curve that you knew instantly that trying to sign Lamar Jackson wouldn’t possibly give you more future upside than the flawless course you’ve plotted for your franchise?
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
smells like some bullshit to me

This trade talk about Russ is so corny and disrespectful. Man is a HoF guy in his prime.
There is nobody who can come into this current situation and succeed behind the aging Goat and a unibrow #2 man who is hurt more than not but also be the go to guy when needed.
Michael Jordan and it’s not close.
There’s a ton of other good answers but nobody else has been put on a pedestal in a way that makes them seem untouchable or unbeatable by future generations.
That being said he’s still #2 all time.
Never forget that at the beginning of the bubble ppl called it "pure hoops" cause there's no distractions, no fans. But as soon as LeBron dominated all of a sudden it was "mickey mouse ring"
MJ didn't have to deal with 1/100th of the scrutiny lebron deals with on a daily basis
Andrew Callaghan on CNN: "Even CNN competes for views by running constant 24hr news cycles based upon fear, division, outrage & panic, probably like to sell ads."
Don Lemon: "I don't agree with what you're saying."
