If there were no electoral college, we would be having a completely different conversation right now, and drawing completely different political conclusions. It's amazing how much voting systems matter.
Trump, in the White House East Room around 2:30 a.m. Nov. 4: “Frankly we did win. So we’ll be going to the U.S. Supreme Court. We want all voting to stop. As far as I’m concerned, we already did win.”
NO! All voting HAS stopped. It’s COUNTING that’s continuing.
BE PATIENT!!!!!
Overnight President Trump declared victory when neither he (nor Joe Biden) have won anything yet and threatened legal action despite there being nothing to challenge given votes — including his — are still being counted.
This is a pretty good set of news for Democrats in Nevada. It's not going to be called when the margin is this narrow, but you can pencil it in the Biden column for the purpose of gaming out where we're going from here

@WajahatAli Wajahat, you have been a constant, unwavering, bright, annoying, maddening, infuriating, welcome, needed, oh so needed, beautiful, warm and life-giving ray of sunshine through all this.
Inshallah Biden wins. I'd hate to unfollow you and burn my phone.
Nobody is trying to steal the election. Votes are simply being counted. Some states, including deep-red Republican states, count ballots postmarked by Election Day even if they arrive afterward. This is entirely normal.
Lost in the discussion about Trump going full autocrat is the reality that he still has a very good shot of winning the election legitimately even if all the votes are counted. More Americans than in 2016 willingly signed up for the worst leadership imaginable.
Trump has now done what @jonathanvswan reported and what Trump denied he would do - came out and said “we did win this election” and called the current vote counting “a fraud on our nation.” Says he will go to Supreme Court to stop counting.
Imagine if a foreign leader discredited his country’s election as a fraud even as his rival was favored, that vote counting must stop and that he was going to the courts to intervene.
It shouldn't be this close.
Not after caging children.
Not after selling out our soldiers.
Not after 230,000 dead.
Not after 4 years of breaking every law on the books.
It should not be this close.
Whatever the final results, it’s hard to overstate how broken our country is when so many millions are ready to give Trump—despite the abject failure and recklessness dealing with the pandemic and his hostility to our democratic process—four more years.
