August 31, I made a lunch bet with an old high school friend.
If #Samsung Electronics hits ₩300,000 or higher by the last trading day of September, he buys lunch.
If it doesn’t, I buy.
Looking at Samsung right now…
I think I’m getting a free lunch. 😂

Apple demand check from Korea 🇰🇷
iPhone 18 preorders opened tonight on #Naver.
Multiple #iPhone#18Pro / #ProMax configurations are already showing SOLD OUT.
WOW!!!
What caught my eye: even the high-end configurations are moving.
iPhone 18 Pro #2TB : ₩3.79M (~$2,700) — sold out.
Korea is #Samsung’s home market, which makes early Apple demand here particularly interesting.
For investors, I’m less interested in launch-day hype than what this could mean downstream:
$AAPL → OLED → camera modules → FPCB → components
Korea’s Apple supply chain is worth watching Monday:
#LGInnotek · #BH · #DuksanNeolux · #InnoxAdvancedMaterials · #PIAdvancedMaterials
One preorder snapshot isn’t proof of a cycle.
But it’s a useful demand signal from Seoul.
#LeopoldAschenbrenner is reportedly back in the options market after a 67% drawdown — and one of his bets is $SKHY hynix.
That caught my attention from Korea.
His reported positions span $AMD , SK hynix, $SNDK , $BE Energy and $ORCL .
The common thread:
AI compute → HBM/memory → storage → power → infrastructure.
The AI trade is becoming less about one chip and more about the entire physical stack required to scale intelligence.
For Korea, SK hynix remains one of the clearest expressions of that thesis.
Monday I’ll be watching what matters:
Foreign buying. Program flows. Trading value.
@Elon’s long-term solar thesis has a Korea angle too.
If solar + storage become core infrastructure for an AI-driven, electricity-hungry world, Korea has several ways to participate.
Two names on my watchlist:
#OCIHoldings — solar/energy value chain
#DaejooElectronicMaterials — advanced battery materials
But the bigger opportunity may extend beyond solar panels themselves:
generation → storage → grid → power management
The sun may be free.
The investment question is who gets paid to capture, store and move the electricity.

I visited the new #MUSINSABEAUTY flagship in #Hongdae today — one day after opening.
The media headline says foreign tourists may be able to finish all their K-beauty shopping here.
My first reaction after actually walking through it:
Not yet. Olive Young still wins easily.
The building looks great. Huge space, strong branding, and plenty of indie and emerging Korean beauty brands. I like the idea of giving smaller K-beauty brands more exposure.
But the actual shopping experience?
Too much friction.
For some products, I had to pull out my phone and scan just to check the price. Why make shopping harder? And the prices didn’t feel particularly compelling.
Many of the brands were completely unfamiliar to me. Discovery is good, but discovery without enough guidance quickly becomes confusion.
Customer service also felt weak for a new flagship. Meanwhile, there was a security guard stationed at the entrance like I was walking into Tiffany. That genuinely made me laugh😂😂😂😂
Then there’s the bigger question.
Within roughly 500 meters in Hongdae, I can now find multiple MUSINSA concepts — Standard, Kicks, Beauty and more.
As a customer, I’m starting to wonder:
What exactly is each MUSINSA store supposed to be?
That matters because MUSINSA is heading toward an IPO.
Strong brand? Absolutely.
Interesting platform for emerging Korean brands? Yes.
But rapid physical expansion before an #IPO deserves scrutiny.
More stores ≠ better retail.
More revenue ≠ better economics.
The real test is whether these stores create repeat customers and stronger unit economics — or simply more capex, complexity and overlapping concepts.
My first impression:
Great branding. Ambitious expansion.
But for actual beauty shopping today?
I’d still walk to Olive Young.

Saturday night outside the U.S. Embassy in Seoul. 🇰🇷 Now!
Protesters are still here at 7 PM, singing a song calling #Trump a “#neighborhoodgangster” who robs the weak, while demonstrating against #troopdeployment .
Big speakers. Giant signs. Plenty of noise.
And this is #Gwanghwamun — right by #Gyeongbokgung, in one of the busiest areas for foreign tourists in Seoul.
What struck me most?
Almost everyone just walks past.
Tourists taking photos. Koreans going somewhere for dinner. People checking their phones.
#Democracy .can be loud.
Seoul just keeps moving. 😂

Another second-order trade emerging from the AI infrastructure boom: risk itself.
Hyperscale data centers are concentrating tens of billions of dollars of GPUs, power infrastructure and other critical assets in individual locations.
Now the insurance market has to figure out how to absorb that concentration.
CNBC reports that dedicated data-center catastrophe bonds could emerge within 12–18 months, allowing insurers to transfer some of that risk to capital markets.
The interesting part isn’t CAT bonds alone.
AI infrastructure keeps creating entirely new markets around it:
Chips → HBM → power → cooling → grid equipment → construction → insurance & risk transfer
When an investment cycle becomes this large, follow the bottlenecks created one layer downstream.
For Korea, I’d still watch power/grid and cooling infrastructure before insurance — but this is another signal of how enormous the physical AI buildout is becoming.

Starship generating revenue is the milestone — not SpaceX.
SpaceX has been generating revenue for years through Falcon launches and Starlink.
The real shift is Starship moving from an experimental program toward a commercial transportation system.
That’s the part worth watching.
Live in central Seoul now. 🇰🇷
A #demonstration calling on the U.S. and Israel to stop the war, with protesters preparing to march past the U.S. Embassy toward the presidential office.
But something else caught my attention.
The speaker had a microphone, a huge screen and people standing right in front of her — yet she was reading almost everything from her phone.
Maybe the speech was carefully prepared. Maybe even with #ChatGPT . Who knows. 😂
But if you want to persuade someone like me who just happens to be walking by, put the phone down for a minute.
Tell me why you are here.
Why you care.
What you believe.
Speak from your heart and I’ll listen — even if I ultimately disagree with you.
A microphone can make your voice louder.
It can’t make it more human.

Weekend Korea Market Notes 🇰🇷
Friday’s US session left a constructive setup for Korea heading into Monday.
• MSCI Korea ETF +3.25%
• SOX +1.81%
• KOSPI night futures +1%
• USD/KRW NDF ~1,342 vs. 1,345.9 Seoul close
• Oil lower on hopes for progress around the Strait of Hormuz
AI remains the key theme, but the trade is broadening beyond GPUs and memory into servers, networking and power infrastructure.
#DeepSeek’s efficiency story adds uncertainty around memory demand, while potentially improving the economics of AI deployment. For Korea, that makes the reaction across semiconductors, power equipment and AI infrastructure worth watching.
Plenty can change over the weekend, so I’m not calling Monday’s direction yet.
For now, it’s Saturday in Seoul. No need to trade the weekend. ☕
Monday morning: flows first, narrative second.
