My latest for @pelliclemag spotlights Scotland’s oldest winery, @cairnomohrwines . Founders Judith and Ron are wonderful people who make excellent fruit wines with local (often foraged) ingredients. Writing this one was a real delight.

@katiematherkm I’ve been having a similar battle - finding any kind of permanent writing/editing/publishing work is made so much harder if you don’t want to live in London. Still refuse to move there though!
When I worked news shifts, at some places I’d write 6-10 pieces a day. I’d leave feeling so frazzled all I was good for was lying in a dark room.
It’s also pure churning, minimal checking — I’d set a goal of at least one original quote a day and even that was exhausting.
As long time stockists and proud supporters of Judith & Ron's work, it is great to see them getting such a lovely write up, do take a gander. Spring Oak, Mulled Elderberry & the Elderflower Sparkling (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions) are the pick of crop for us!
After tearing my hamstring at jiu-jitsu on Monday, I can no longer make it to @GuildFoodWriter awards tonight. Gutted to miss it but wishing all the shortlisted writers, editors and producers the best of luck!
Next year, I’ll be sure to skip Monday’s no-gi class!
Advice for scholars: next time you lecture on Kant and revolutions at “Downing” (@DarwinCollege) Cambridge, make sure your hair is neatly tied and that you’re not blonde. Or else your research impact will be on the @spectator libido section.
☕️ Grab a coffee (or a beer!) and read this brilliant piece about the challenges of community pub ownership written by @JLSmithwriter. It includes a focus on The Fox and Hounds, Ennerdale in #Lakeland, with our data + an interview with our Head of Policy & Comms @ChrisCowcher
@brightonrebel@thebevy I bet. After learning more about it I've got an incredible amount of respect for anyone working in or associated with a community pub - seems like a whole lot of graft!
The reality of organising and running rural community-owned pubs is not as simple and enjoyable as mainstream media would have us believe. In this article, I examine why that is. Very excited to see it published. Thanks to the wonderful @pelliclemag for giving this story a home.
