@jenn_rubin @geo3550 Thank you for spending your time and energy on this. We’re truly benefiting from the impact alums like you have on U-M! You continue to be an outstanding role model.
the fact that UM has already deducted this pay before april has even ended just shows they’re not bargaining with @geo3550 in good faith. grad workers simply want a living wage, to make enough money to do our jobs—our teaching, our research, our writing—well
well. @UMich has officially docked all pay but $100 for april from its grad workers, putting many of us in a position of dangerous financial precarity. friends/allies, please consider donating to @geo3550 strike fund at https://t.co/NlE4QIQXh6. we need all the help we can get ✊
What do I mean by…
Empirical: mapping onto actual people’s actual experiences;
Accurate: meaningfully reflecting phenomena;
Just: not promoting majorities and marginalizing minorities; providing liberatory potential for minority lives and situating majority ones.
On Mon, @michigandaily published a hit piece w/ misinformation about our working conditions & campaign. Even after a full paragraph of corrections, we wanted to set the record straight. Grads work full time and deserve a living wage!

@Dococtomocto@BeccaCalisi *Too many PhDs for available [tt] academic positions. Not for the research needed done by workers in many different industries.
@YusongGong @jenn_rubin Projects that go towards a degree AND ALSO become the university’s intellectual property, comprising part of the knowledge and information that the university boasts about producing. Graduate student workers are not compensated for this aspect of the position.
at the @geo3550 general member meeting, and our union president just said something like: the university often thinks of grad school as a prelude to our real lives. but our real lives are happening now. and we deserve to be able to live those lives with dignity.
55% of working artists are women. Yet women's art is just 13% of museum collections. Like other fields, the decision makers (in this case museum director and curators) are mostly men. @nickicamberg

I get so depressed by the job ads for Women's / Gender Studies professors. They're so often for visiting scholars, adjuncts, or other temporary positions. Scholars working in this field deserve secure and stable jobs too! #jobmarket
@Giligg If women and men have the same physiological capacities for orgasm, what biological reason explains their unequal orgasm rates during sexual activity?
